My other half now has an office and I wondered if anyone had any ideas for something Boom Boxish that can be used for background music.

Any recommendations on brands to either go with or avoid will be welcome too.

Thanks.

I have a small Sony boom box in my cubicle (I listen with headphones) and I love it. Sonys are popular where I work, Philips and JVC seem to make nice ones, but I've heard to avoid Aiwa, as those are prone to failure.

For an office (depending on its size), you may want to consider a small mini-system with a CD changer, unless she plans to listen to the radio all day. There are also small "mini-stereo" systems that don't look so boom boxish but are compact and would look nice in an office. Sony, JVC, Nakamichi, and a few others make these.

Panasonic makes some great systems such as these micro systems for the office. http://www.prodcat.p....ategoryid=1822

There are also some great boom boxes as well.

I would take a look at some higher quality boxes including the following.

Onkyo CS-209 about $300 http://www.onkyousa.....nisys&m=CS-209

or the

Onkyo MC5Tech about $400 http://www.onkyousa.....isys&m=MC5TECH
