Cadillac already plans to freshen the car's interior for the 2004 model year...

It shouldn't take a genius to figure out this beast is getting the same kind of "freshening" the Aztek got within days of hitting the showroom floor. Deafening silence makes carmakers call the design team for a reworking.

I'd take a well preserved 96 Impala SS over any BMW any day of the week anyway, something about that good old high-torque American V8 rumble just appeals to me more than all that "Precision German Engineering" that costs more to maintain than a bad cocaine habit.

It's really good to see Cadillac going back to it's rear drive V8 roots.

an M5 will quickly put it in its place in acceleration and handling I think

should make for some interesting shootouts with the new infinity, caddy v8, m5 etc.

I think the CTS is s sharp car. What appeals to one, appalls another. I guess that's why there are so many different auto manufacturers out there.

Yeah, I guess....especially for $70,000

M5: Starts at $69,900
M3: Starts at $45,900
CTS: Starts at $29,000

I suspect the CTSi w/v8 will probably add $3,000 to the price of the CTS, brining it to $34,000 or so. Is the M3 really going to be worth an extra $12,000 or so? Maybe not if Cadillac can get it right

With everything, you get what you pay for. The new Caddy might take a few sales away from the BMW 325i and 330i, but definitely not the M3.

It's gonna cost you more than an additional $3,000 for the V8 from what I've seen. The CTS with the V8 is a special edition that will cost you a pretty penny. I don't remember what the actual suggested price was though. Try to find a well equipped CTS now for $35,000 and you're going to be looking for a while. The options on a CTS are expensive. Can you say $2,700 for a BOSE stereo system????? LOL! I've been looking for a new car and I looked at the CTS. I actually really like the exterior styling of the car but I hated the interior and didn't like the handling.

BMW has nothing to fear from the new CTS V8. It takes a lot more than a powerful engine to compare to an M3. An M3 handles better than any sub $100,000 car on the road.

I've had my BMW for 2.5 years and it has cost me exactly $0 to maintain it. Everything is covered under the warranty and the only thing that has been done during this time is oil changes.

Wow, lotsa discussion on this one! Going back to the M3 vs. CTSi, there's no doubt that acceleration figures would probably be close, but from what I've read in most car magazines about the M3, it's one tough car to beat in all other areas. I've probably seen a C5 Corvette vs. M3 article in about three different magazines, which is quite a comparison. I'm betting that the new Caddy XLR would be closer to the M3 than the new CTS. However, that is not to say the V8 CTS will not tear up the road, becuase I know it will.

Pricewise, I predict the base CTSi will cost $37k because no way Caddy is gonna put such a beastly engine in a car lacking in all the available performance options. Currently the CTS luxury sport package (the most expensive of the two avail. packages) is $3,500. Add the base price of $30,000 to that plus an additional $3-4k for the engine, and that's about 37 grand, probably more. With a fair amount of options, 6-speed (not confirmed), 18" rims, and other performance pluses, I predict it will cost $45k+. In fact, a fully loaded CTS currently goes for just over $40,000, so you figure the CTSi will have sport inspired options taking the grand total for a fully loaded CTSi to $47-50,000.

From what I've heard, the CTS stands for Cadillac Touring Sedan, wouldn't that make the Cadillac CTS redundent? Kind of like an ATM "machine"

I have a friend who gets pissed off when people call an ATM, an "ATM machine". Me, I just call it a MAC machine.
