Why did my Onkyo 696 "freeze up"?

After listening to CD's for two hours, my Onkyo receiver would not respond to any input. Not at the panel or the remote. Would not even respond to the "standby" power down either.

I shut it down via the main power switch. When it powered back up, it forgot every setting! All seems to be back to normal a week later.

Is this typical of these microprocessor enriched receivers these days? Sort of like a computer needing to be rebooted? Or is it a portent of bad things to come?

I have it exactly one year and I like the sound, features and ergonomics very much. It is pushing Paradigm Monitor 7s/Mini Monitors/CC370 and a PW2200 sub.

Anyone with a similar experience?
