| This software adds coding to enable the Dolby Digital EX flag encoded onto DVDs to function. The flag tells the RSP1066 that it is playing a DD EX encoded disc, and then the flag switches the processor to the predetermined format as specified on the disc. |
This function may or may not be overridden depending on how the disc is encoded. For example, a disc may begin in Dolby Digital 6.1, and then switch to 2-channel or even Dolby Pro-logic before changing back to 6.1, depending on how the disc is formatted. This switching is correct and in line with the disc manufacturer's specification.
Adding this software to your model may or may not enhance your listening pleasure. The RSP1066 will play matrix encoded discs like Dolby Digital EX, or dts ES, without the software being changed. Changing the software allows the DVD being played back to control the surround modes automatically.
