Over there in software, I've seen a lot of people talking about how much more we, as enthusiasts buy than the average pan&scan consumer.
This got me thinking, If I can average the collection numbers out, and how many years all have been collecting DVDs (2 years 5 years, or any in between), we could then calculate these figures on a per year basis, and using a sample of, say 50 members, come up with a logical number, per average, for all 20,000+ members on this forum.
So here's mine.
324 DVDs
5 years (6-1-1997)
324/5=65.8 DVDs a year (average).

I'm guessing 3 years...

Holy guacamole, Batman! 142 pr year, 11-12 DVD's pr month...

And my buying was more modest the first year... And I wonder where my money disappear!

362 dvds and I've been collecting almost four years. Throw in the SE upgrading and discs that I've sold off and that would make it at least 400. So it averages out to about a hundred dvds a year. Ouch! My poor wallet...

68 Titles

116 Individual disc...for the reason my anime box sets include 4 to 6 dvds in a box.

Started collecting July of last year, so 9 months.

By titles:

68/0.75=90.66 titles per year

By dvd:

116/0.75=154.66 dvds per year

Well counting the DVDs I have now, the ones I've sold off & the ones I've upgraded I'd say roughly 600.
I started collecting May '98. 4 years.
This averages out to 150 titles per year.
and I've never purchased a non-OAR disc. Unless you want to count the Kubrick collection but I'm not going there. :D

350 discs. Nice solid collection. When I do the math for how much it cost, I start freaking out.

I've been collecting probably about four years, maybe five now...No, it's five years now. One of the first movies I bought was Wild Things, and that was a new release, so it's been 5 years now.

I've been buying dvds for about 5 years, since it started really. Player totally broke me to start with.
So I've only really been "collecting" for about 2.5 years, since the ol student loan cheques started coming in :D
Could, but won't, do the math because, like Nate, I would totally freak out.
250+ dvds.

80 titles. I've been collecting since December of 2000.

I'll probably hit the 100 mark by December. I already know what I'm probably going to get this year.

OK here's what we have so far. David, Patrick, and Andrew, I didn't count yours, because I need your years of ownership to divide by, I'll add'em in when you tell me how long. Brian, I added in your total bought.
Also Rain, I took 1/2 a year from you and gave it to Paul to make the math easier. Nate, it's only been 4 years since Wild Things has been released, so I gave you 4.
I guess I should lay the rules, double or more disc'ers count as 1 title, such a TV shows, or mini-series. However, box sets like Godfather, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon count as individual films and will be counted separately. Ex; Sopranos: Season 2 is 1 title, The Ultimate Toy Box counts as 2. Moulin Rouge, Star Wars, Close Encounters etc. only count as one.
Total cumulative years everyone's been collecting=41
Average years collecting=3.416.
Total DVDs bought=5658 ...this is of course less the 3 who's time hasn't been calculated in.
Which comes to an average of 138 titles per year. It comes to 11.5 DVDs a month, or almost 3 a week.
Averaged over 12 respondents .

The Math:

Now at 721 DVD's.... over approximately 880 days it comes to an average of .81 DVD's a day. Or about 288 DVD's a year.

MSRP value is $19692.72 while actual costs have been $11,175.14 which translates out to about $12.70 a day.
