Why no Fox reviews? (1 Viewer)

I notice that no DVD's from Fox are being reviewed by this site. I did a search and only found a statement from Ron stating that he no longer is doing reviews of Fox DVD's.

Surely whatever petty differences you have with a studio are not going to keep you from trying to run a professional site. To be taken as a serious reviewer you should be above this kind of behavior.

I am anxiously waiting the day Fox DVD's are reviewed here......

Hi Fred, and Welcome to the HTF! :)
Whatever the problem is with Fox reviews and the HTF, really, is it that important? There are a plethora of Fox DVD reviews elsewhere, not to mention here by regular members. This is a professional site, with or without Ron's reviews. ;)

Ron has reviewed Behind Enemy Lines, Black Knight, and Say Anything recently. Last time I checked, all three are FOX titles.

Fred, I see you just joined HTF and this is your first post. You might want to take a little time to learn your way around before presuming so much about how things do and don't operate. For example, I challenge you to show me anywhere on HTF where it says that "no DVD's from Fox are being reviewed by this site". That simply isn't true.
In any case, I'm moving this to the forum Feedback section.

Micheal,

I do remember Ron saying at the end of the Sandlot(i believe this was the film) that it was going to be his last Fox DVD review.

Yep, he did say that.
Note: This will be my final
review of a Fox title. I have made a personal decision
to cease reviewing Fox titles. In no way does this reflect any personal
problems or disagreements with
the studio.
Here's the link.
I think this has been touched on before, and the only response has been the one above. It's fine by me....

I believe that Ron has perhaps quietly changed his mind on this. I won't speak for him, but he "made an exception" for Say Anything because it was "HTF-inspired".
As was pointed out, Ron recently reviewed Black Knight, and that's a Fox disc.
So...don't worry about it! It's Ron's choice as to what he reviews, any old way.

Kelley, Ike, et al. --
I'm well aware of Ron's statement a few months back that he would not be doing any more reviews of Fox discs. That's not the same as saying there will be no more Fox reviews by this site, which is what Fred claimed. This site consists of many thousands of members, and there are many DVD reviews posted here by people other than Ron. (And as noted, Ron has since reviewed several Fox DVDs.)

Gentlemen,
I did indeed say that I was no longer going
to be reviewing any Fox DVD product.
I never originally broadcast my reasons out
of respect for Peter Staddon. It's important
that you know that there is absolutely no
conflict between that studio and myself.
I'll tell you the reason why I stopped. It's
no big deal at this point, I guess.
The reason why I stopped is because I was not
getting the product other website reviewers
were getting. I was never sent copies of
some of their major television product between
September and January.
Although I spent many occasions on the phone
trying to resolve reasons why product was not
being sent to me (with a lot of help from Peter
himself), in the end, I was still being denied
access to titles.
I finally decided to stop doing reviews for
the studio. It wasn't healthy for me to continue
getting upset that I was being denied access to
product that other sites were getting. I asked
the studio to stop sending me screener product
altogether.
While I was on hiatus, I noticed screener
product still came to my door. It *seems* like
I am now finally getting all the early review
product the studio is sending out to other sites.
For that reason, I have slowly started doing
reviews like Behind Enemy Lines and
Black Knight. My next review should be
From Hell.
I must reitterate that I never had a personal
quarrel with anyone at Fox. It was just a matter
that I was only receiving 50% of the screener
product other sites were getting and nobody at
Fox was able to resolve the problem. I am not
sure the problem is resolved at this point, but
until I notice that I am being cut off again, I
will continue to review Fox product. I want to
review Fox product as I believe they are the best
DVD studio out there, bar none.

Perhaps it's an inherent issue with the way reviews are handled at the HTF.

This is, of course, not meant as an insult of any sort, but most DVD review sites have a fairly large team of reviewers. The more reviewers, obviously, the more product they can review. Perhaps Fox thought it was wasteful to send you a large number of screeners if you weren't realistically able to handle the smaller percentage they were already sending you.

That sounds unlikely. 25,000+ members plus however many don't even register but just lurk. I'm sure that's worth whatever it would cost them to send the stuff out.
Pretty weird. Maybe it was just a computer glitch.
Either that or Ron's Mailman was getting wise to the distinctive Fox wrapping...
"X-Files Season 3? Well I think I need that more than Mr. Epstein!";) :D

Ron,

When do you expect to have this review up? I know I'm in the minority, but this was one of my favorite films of 2001 and will be there on my lunch break to pick this disc up. Do you have any hints or teases that you can give us now.

And thanks for airing the laundry with what was going down between you and Fox. I agree with your view that if you are not getting treated like other reviewers then you should not do Fox reviews.

No, this is certainly not the case. I was
assured by Fox that I would be receiving all
screener product.
The problem was that no matter how many times
Peter was personally involved in making phone
calls to get me this product, the product never
came.
I think someone outside of the studio was
making sure I was getting shortchanged.
In any event, I didn't really mean to air
dirty laundry here, but you guys have kept
asking and up until now I have offered no
reply.
As for From Hell....
Just received the screener an hour ago.
I am going to watch it tonight and spend
most of tomorrow morning mulling over the
supplements. Expect a review up by noon EST
on Tuesday 4/16.

Yes, Ron. Thanks for the explanation.

Makes all the sense in the world.

I don't think it was "dirty laundry". You are a reviewer that wasn't getting product to review. Seems simple enough and I don't know how Fox could have had any problem if you told the truth. But, anyway, I am glad everything has been worked out.

I enjoy your reviews very much. I find them concise yet incredibly insightful and helpful.

nah...i think it doesn`t make a lot of sense.

See. I love the Home Theater Forum, but i don`t respect Ron's Reviews from a critical point of view and just don`t see Ron as a DVD reviewing journalist. :)

Again thats not meant to insult Ron.

I find Ron's reviews quite enjoyable. He doesn't bother with trying to sound like he is taking on this massive role as a reviewer and is some expert, blah, blah, blah like other reviewers.
I think he tends to be too easy on reviews if anything, but it may be more about personal tastes than anything else you know.
