Did you guys hate Whoopie as much as I did?

I wasn't very happy about the show.
Whoopie was a horribly unfunny host whose
comedy material was tainted with the usual
amount of racial remarks. I can't believe
that the Academy still chooses her to host
these shows.
I think the Academy tried to please everyone
this year. They gave awards to just about
every film, instead a heap of awards to one
or two.
While Denzel Washington deserves a
best actor award, it is not for TRAINING DAY.
The award was simply one that was due. It's
the same thing as in past years with other actors
who are due, such as Al Pacino. Did he
really deserve an Oscar for SCENT OF A WOMAN
when there were greater performances in THE
GODFATHER and DOG DAY AFTERNOON?
Halle Berry deserved a Best Actress award, but
it bothers me that she was whispering to the Press
that if a black person didn't win this year, that
it would show Hollywood is prejudice. Whether I
agree is not the point -- it's the fact that she
had the nerve to say such things before the awards.
Save that rhetoric till after you lose.
Of course I was upset with A BEAUTIFUL MIND
walking away with BEST PICTURE. It certainly was
a great film, but there have been so many films
like this before. Nobody, but NOBODY immersed
themselves in a film like BAZ LUHRMANN did for
Moulin Rouge. Say what you will, but
Moulin was the most creative, Director-driven
movie in recent memory. The fact that Baz didn't
even get a nomination for Best Director is a crime.
It just felt like a cheap year at the Academy
Awards. For all the mud-slinging and hopes of
a unexpected surprise -- there were none. The
awards were very predictable this year for the
most part, sans the lost award for Ian.
