Okay folks...
What did you like?
What did you dislike?
Did you guys hate Whoopie as much as I did?
Look forward to hearing your remarks.
I wasn't very happy about the show.
Whoopie was a horribly unfunny host whose
comedy material was tainted with the usual
amount of racial remarks. I can't believe
that the Academy still chooses her to host
these shows.
I think the Academy tried to please everyone
this year. They gave awards to just about
every film, instead a heap of awards to one
or two.
While Denzel Washington deserves a
best actor award, it is not for TRAINING DAY.
The award was simply one that was due. It's
the same thing as in past years with other actors
who are due, such as Al Pacino. Did he
really deserve an Oscar for SCENT OF A WOMAN
when there were greater performances in THE
GODFATHER and DOG DAY AFTERNOON?
Halle Berry deserved a Best Actress award, but
it bothers me that she was whispering to the Press
that if a black person didn't win this year, that
it would show Hollywood is prejudice. Whether I
agree is not the point -- it's the fact that she
had the nerve to say such things before the awards.
Save that rhetoric till after you lose.
Of course I was upset with A BEAUTIFUL MIND
walking away with BEST PICTURE. It certainly was
a great film, but there have been so many films
like this before. Nobody, but NOBODY immersed
themselves in a film like BAZ LUHRMANN did for
Moulin Rouge. Say what you will, but
Moulin was the most creative, Director-driven
movie in recent memory. The fact that Baz didn't
even get a nomination for Best Director is a crime.
It just felt like a cheap year at the Academy
Awards. For all the mud-slinging and hopes of
a unexpected surprise -- there were none. The
awards were very predictable this year for the
most part, sans the lost award for Ian.

15 right

4 2nd picks which included Denzel that I had winning for the longest time...shoulda stuck with my reasoning that repeats are too freaking hard with tough competition.

I understand it's selfish, but just once I'd like to have my favorite film win. Not saying anything against ABM...just dissapointing for me.

All I can say is that the Academy Awards better right this wrong next year and choose LOTR: The Two Towers as best picture. A Beautiful Mind was good but not epic and not nearly as good as LOTR.

Whoopie: About as stimulating as Novacaine...
She had two... count 'em, TWO funny lines. The rest was collossally long, unfunny, and about as joyous as a sledgehammer to the sack.
I liked two... count 'em, TWO bits: Cirque du Soleil and John Williams.
And someone put Halle Berry back on her meds.

No Man's Land - hard to be an upset when it won the Golden Globes (and is a damn fine film BTW)

Berry was a favorite after SAG

Denzel was a favorite unitl SAG

So those 3 aren't upsets.

Only 2 big surprises at all really, Newman finally winning over Sting and Paul (even he was suprised) and Editing going to BHD instead of Guild winner MR or indy fav Memento as an acknowledgement award.

Not a fan of Whoopi...

Not a fan of A Beautiful Mind...

Not a fan of LoTR only winning Technicals...

...and once again, not a fan of the Oscars

...I know it's selfish, but hey

The Fellowship of the Ring was robbed of 3 Oscars. This was a night of redemption, not a night of honoring the years best films and their categories. Plus, Nicole was seriously robbed too. Oh well, all that matters is the DVD of your favorite film. LOTR will have 3 releases and ABM will have 1. Just goes to show you which one will have the most longevity.

saw ABM last night, and have seen LOTR 4 times. They are completely different films, and I have no problem with ABM as best picture, it was a great film, IMHO.

I thought Ian McKellan should have won for supporting actor, and I thought Crowe should have won for actor.

I think all awards are well deserved.

And I agree about the Stiller/Wilson skit, funniest part of the night..

Speaking of redemption: Next year LOTR: The Two Towers had better win because I see nothing coming that will even come close.

Must have been difficult for Russell Crowe losing out on that Best Actor award whenever the film got best film and best director.

I've seen better shows (and I definitely disliked Whoopi as a host) but at least Lord of the Rings lost. So I'm okay.
