Evil Dead - Book of the Dead Limited Edition.
The packaging is wicked cool, but Geez Louise I almost passed out from the vinyl fumes when I popped the shrink wrap off.
It's really a rather disturbing piece of packaging, but you have to give them props for putting it out this way.
Anyone else have a particularly odorous disc to talk about? :D

Cool DVD packagining indeed... those who will get it next week will see what we mean :) I just left mine next to an open window for a day... that new latex smell is as good as gone :D Uh, the rest of my DVDs... upon closer inspection, just smell like plastic :D

I may just be going on fuzzy memory here, but to me, the "Book" doesn't really look like the BOTD in the films. It catches the general gist of it, but to me, it just doesn't look the book. I need to watch Evil Dead again though, just to see if the book is that different than in Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness.

Then again, even if it did look like the book to me, I probably wouldn't get it. If I want a smelly replica of the Book of the Dead, I'll go buy one. If I want a DVD just put it out in an Amaray and I'm happy.

Folks, this sort of opportunity doesn't come along very often. How many DVD cases can offer this sort of experience? Just as the Digital Bits review says, when you get your BOOK OF THE DEAD package, just open the wrapper staight away and take a bigggggggg sniff........... Mm mmmmm.... God bless Anchor Bay. The possibilities for invention are endless. Hope my remastered CRIMES OF PASSION DVD from them doesn't smell like the cop's nightstick in that movie...

I'm with Rob - I opened it outside and let it sit on the porch for a couple of hours before bringing it in!:D

Mike... you are absolutely correct. The Book DOES NOT look quite like the one in Evil Dead, it looks more like the books they used in Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

Does anybody know why the movie is rated NC-17. I have never seen this movie and was curious.

There are probably movies that should be NC-17 like Texas Chainsaw Massacer and movies with lots of Nudity like American Pie 1 and 2, Porkys, Fast Times at Ridgmont High.

Out of curiousity, why should Texas Chainsaw Massacre be NC-17? It has no gore at all. Are you thinking of Part 2?

Back on topic, none of my DVDs have a funny smell that I can think of. Well, The Wicker Man smells like wood, because it is wood, but that's pretty much it, I guess.
