The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

Shame this months Film Movement club release isn't on BD.

Same for Desert Dancer. Will scour looking for this in HD elsewhere.

Mistress America. This will be my first "not bought when first available" Greta movie. $30? Really?

All Things Must Pass isn't coming out til January 19th, and it says it will be a BD-R disc. Better that than no Blu-Ray release at all though- I refused to see it at the Tower Theater here in Sacramento since that place was tri-plexed in the 70s- and even more pathetic, one screen sold out so they also ran it on a 2nd screen when the theater in its original state would've solved every problem!

Nothing for me this week. And, given what I've spent the last couple days, thank God for that!

Right there with you. It's a welcome respite.

Thanks for your work, Mike! I *loved* Mistress America, but I'm not paying anywhere near that price for it, so it'll have to wait for a price drop. Nothing else for me this week either, but I got enough with Black Friday to occupy me for a while.

Nothing for me either. And I have been preoccupied with some Black Friday purchasing myself. Glad it's a quiet week otherwise.

Thanks, Jesse, for the info on All Things Must Pass. I don't understand why it was on my various release lists I check for this week...AND came up on Amazon's list for this coming week...even though I see it now clearly says January 19. Too bad.

Thanks, as always, everyone for the "likes" of the OP! I really appreciate those!

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike!

I reviewed War Pigs here.

I'll be reviewing Downhill Racer when the disc gets to me, and I'm supposed to get Mistress America but am not sure if Fox will send it.

I can't believe it, finally! Go, Tell the Spartans. I'm all over it, even if it is just a DVD and not a bluray.

I hope it's anamorphic unlike the 2005 DVD release I have of it.

I took advantage of Kino Lorber's Black Friday sale on their website (still going on) and snagged Fort Massacre, Gunfight at Dodge City, and Robbers' Roost on blu-ray for $9.98/each.

I'm just back from Target, and from my experience there I can tell you about 3 sort-of new releases that Mike didn't include in the RoundUp.

Disney reissued the three Toy Story theatrical films this week in packaging configurations that mimic the Blu-ray+Digital HD releases afforded the "Of Terror" and "That Time Forgot" TV specials.

I say sort-of new because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot new about the discs. The first two appear to be the exact same Blu-ray discs that came out in March 2010. I didn't have those discs, but the supplements listed on the back are the same, and the disc label art is identical to the cover art of the previous release, so I'm guessing it's just a reissue.

The difference is that these releases are single-disc Blu-ray only and ditch the watered-down DVDs out of previous combo packs. They are instead equipped with a digital copy, so essentially you're swapping the DVDs for digital.

All three have new cover artwork with big heads of different characters. Woody is on the first film, Jessie is on the second and Buzz is on the third. Oddly enough, they miss the obvious opportunity to lane the original film a 20th Anniversary Edition, which is especially on-the-nose since it was in theaters 20 years ago Thanksgiving, but the new Blu-ray doesn't call it anything (other than being labelled Special Edition on the disc art, as I think it was last time.)

I didn't get the third because my original purchase of that film was on Blu-ray, but I saw it at the store. The original Blu-ray release of Toy Story 3 featured two Blu-ray discs, including one reserved for supplemental features. I can't confirm if the new edition retains the supplement disc or not.

Target had each of them for $17.99 apiece.

Guilty as charged -- I was looking in the actual grid when I said you didn't mention them. Thanks.

Funny thing is I usually do read the whole thing, on Sunday, but today I didn't remember that line and just checked the grid before posting.

It is kind of odd to see Disney release top-tier animated titles in this nature since they seem generally committed to the combo pack strategy for family titles (which they invented with the original Platinum Edition release of Sleeping Beauty.) I actually think the Blu-ray singles make a lot more sense for catalog titles of this nature because most people who buy the Blu editions will be upgrading from previous versions. (If I want to watch a DVD of it again, which I doubt, I've always got my old DVD, so what's the point of the new one?)
