Hi I was wondering if anybody on the forum has any experience with the Polk M70's I was thinking of replacing my Polk R40's with them and was wondering if it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

I'm not that familiar with the R series but the M70 is from the Monitor series which was there entry level from what I remember. If I were you I would look at the RTi8's that are on sale right now for $120 at newegg. I think those would be a much better speaker than the M70's and cheaper too.

I'm very familiar with the whole Polk Monitor line. The 70s sound quite similar to the 40s. So, you're not gaining any improvement in sound quality. What you do gain is more extension (lower and more bass) and the ability for greater output. Basically, the 70s will play louder and deeper, but otherwise they sound the same.
