Jim Jarmusch is a wonderfully idiosyncratic filmmaker, that has had a fan following for over thirty years. When you watch one of his films, what you don't get is something crafted by a bunch of studio execs over a conference table.
You get Jim Jarmusch.
Only Lovers Left Alive is a lovingly crafted, simple film, about an older couple, living apart, who reunite, only to be forced from their environment by a slightly nutty, friendly interloper from their past.
Shot in Morocco, Germany, but mostly in the Detroit area, inclusive of the old Michigan Theater, it has a slow (actually very slow) deliberate style, somehow fitting the subject matter.
The Blu-ray looks as it should, as it was shot with an Alexa. The image appears as pure data, with nary a bit of grain or noise in sight.
A nice looking Blu-ray, with little information to up-rez. I found the track to be slightly muddled in a couple of sequences, but never a problem.
