I'm getting a Yamaha 3050 to upgrade to Dolby Atmos,so I'm selling my less than a year old 3040. Perfect condition. 9 channel x 150 watts (rated for 2 channels driven). Non-smoking household, if that matters. Original box, remote, manual. I'll pay shipping in the continental US. $975.

I thought the 3040 could be upgraded to Atmos via a firmware upgrade. (Unless you're looking ahead to DTS:X.)

Hi, Elizabeth. I don't think the 3040 can be upgraded to Atmos. That's the impression I get from reading Yamaha's website and also there is not a firmware upgrade download on their support page where the rest of the updates are. But I could be wrong.

THere is this-

Yamaha Dolby Atmos Firmware Update for RX-A2040 and RX-A3040

"Yamaha just released a major firmware update for its RX-A2040 and RX-A3040 Avenge AV receivers. The v1.60 Yamaha Dolby Atmos Firmware Update adds, as you may have guessed, Dolby Atmos capabilities to the RX-A2040 and RX-A3040 receivers. It does this by utilizing the rear speaker terminals differently as well as adjusting the user interface and GUI to make use of the new format. This firmware includes supports for Dolby Atmos playback, but also brings support for 4K60p 4:4:4 full color pass-through."

The Yamaha RX-A3040 supports Dolby Atmos, as of a firmware update that occurred in November 2014:

Thanks, Mark. This would be the story of my life - an upgrade just after I bought a new receiver. But I don't see it yet on the Yamaha support website. Perhaps it just hasn't been posted yet. I suppose that I should rationalize that this would make my 3040 even more desirable.
