Through Sunday, it's 60% off ITV TV series like The Professionals and The Prisoner. Over 700 titles on sale. I bought enough to even make the inflated shipping price worth it!

The Prisoner Blu-ray box set for £12! I already have that, but I bought The Sweeney season one Blu-ray set for £11, a lovely bit of seventies politically incorrect mayhem.

I just got my box of goodies from the flash sale... I learned something interesting. When you pay the 40 pound shipping price, they ship overnight from the UK to the US! Here is my haul...

Look At Life: Military (Newsreels)

Saturday Night At The London Palladium Vol 1&2 (Variety)

Tempo Vol 1 (Celebrity Interviews Jacques Tati, Orson Welles, etc)

56 Up (documentary)

Public Eye: ABC Years, 1969, 1971, 1972/3, 1975 (Crime drama)

Ghost Squad complete (Crime drama)

Armchair Thriller complete (Suspense)

Rivals of Sherlock Holmes 1&2 (Mystery)

The Invisible Man (Fantasy / SciFi)

Frost on Sunday (Comedy)

Disappearing World Vol 1 (Anthropological Documentary)

Look Back on 70s Telly 1, 2, 3 & 4 (Weird Local Children's Shows)

The Champions complete (Crime Drama)

The Corridor People (SciFi - kind of like The Prisoner)

Danger Man: Series 1 / Series 2 (Secret Agent)

The Sweeney (Blu-ray Crime Drama)

I still have a few backordered...

Pathfinders in Space Trilogy (Children's SciFi Serial)

Spitting Image Series 1-7 (Comedy Puppets)

My haul wasn't as big. I ended up making several smaller orders. Interestingly, two came very quickly (within a few days while the other two are apparently taking a slower route since all have been shipped).

I picked up:

- Adventures of Robin Hood, Complete

- William Tell, Complete

- Human Jungle, Complete

- Edgar Wallace Mysteries: Volume 5

- Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel, Complete

- Count of Monte Cristo, Complete

- Sword of Freedom, Complete

- It's Dark Outside

The only one there I have are the Edgar Wallace Mysteries and they are great. When I ordered that set, I didn't realize they were feature films. I thought it was TV like Perry Mason. Very pleasant surprise to watch it.

Let me know how those bow and arrow costume dramas are.

I'm looking forward to trying out the Edgar Wallace Mysteries. From what I understand they fit in the "B" film noir type mysteries category. Longer than the average TV show but short for a movie. Picture quality is suppose to be excellent but sound quality is reported to be a bit lacking in some. This one wasn't actually on sale but I needed something to round out that basket and it still wasn't that expensive to try out. If it goes well I will order the complete series. "It's a Dark Side" is another blind buy film-noir type from what I read. The picture quality isn't pristine but it should be interesting.

I've seen various episodes of Robin Hood and William Tell already, and I really enjoyed Adventures of Sir Frances Drake as well. I already have Buccaneers and Sir Lancelot but haven't watched them yet. The sale caught my interest to get more. My take is that if you like this sort of thing they all probably have something to offer.

The Edgar Wallace films make good double features on movie night.

One of the things I've found with the Network titles is that the most likely reason they weren't syndicated to the US is the mush mouth British accents. It makes it very hard for a Yank to understand, but I'm getting used to it. Sound quality isn't as much of an issue than diction.

I watched the first episode of The Sweeney last night. Holy cow! That show sure piles on the grit on top of its gritty action! Some of the violence in there was beyond anything we saw on American TV at the time.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Even the 2 theatrical Sweeney movies weren't as violent as the tv show.

The Sweeney and to a lesser extent The Professionals caused a lot of fuss at the time due to the amount of violence.

If you have season 3 check out the precredits scene for Taste of Fear.

That hasn't been shown intact on British tv for decades as ITV have edited all the episodes of both The Sweeney and The Professionals so they can be aired in daytime. Many episodes don't get shown at all and precredits scene for Taste of Fear is extremely brief which is why the dvd makes a special note that a couple of episodes including Taste of Fear are the uncut versions.

Originally aired at 9pm I'm doubtful that scene would air at 9pm even today.
