I have a good number of improperly-mastered US NTSC Laserdiscs where the black level is definitely well above 7.5IRE.
(And, no, I'm not talking about JP NTSC Laserdiscs and their 0IRE.)
What's the best way to deal with this?
My TV is properly calibrated—colorimeter and all—to Rec. 709, but I also have a Rec. 601 mode that I use for playing Laserdiscs. I can drag the black level down to correct for the improper masting, but will this drag everything else back into place or do I need to modify e.g. the white level too?
