I have an issue with sound output (no sound) from my home theatre speakers for regular TV channel audio. I've hooked up TV's, cable boxes & speakers before for myself and family members, so I am not a novice, but probably not an expert either. I've been trying to find a solution for several days now, but have become desperate and found this site. I'm hoping someone can help me out.
What I am trying to do is use my home theatre surround sound speakers to output the audio when watching TV. The video and sound work fine when watching a DVD, so I know its not an issue with the speakers, but I do not get any sound when watching TV.
Here is my equipment:
- My TV is a Sharp Aquos TV, Model No. LC-70UD27U
- My home theatre system is a Sony Bravia system, Model No. DAV-DZ170
- My TV channel source is Verizon FiOS cable. I am using a DVR box, Motorola (make) QIP7232-P2 (model no.)
Here is my setup:
I have connected a high-speed HDMI cable from my home theatre system to the HDMI-1 terminal on my TV (the HDMI-1 terminal is ARC supported). As a backup, I have also connected an optical audio cable from the optical audio output on my TV to the optical audio input on my home theatre system. I've also tried the following:
- connecting the optical cable from my cable box to the home theatre system
- connecting the home theatre system to another HDMI terminal on the TV
FYI...my cable box is connected via HDMI cable to the HDMI-4 terminal on the TV (this is the only terminal that handles a 4K signal).
I turn on the TV and then turn on the home theatre system. I choose the 'TV/Cable' input on the home theatre system. There is some sort of link between the TV and the theatre system because when the theatre system is turned on, the sound from the TV speakers is automatically muted and when I press the volume up/down button, both the receiver and TV volume indications move simultaneously. However, there is no sound output from the home theatre speakers. I have tried all of the other inputs on the home theatre system (i.e. Audio In, DVD/CD) but still can't get any sound.
I've been playing around with this for a couple of days now and I am desperate to find an answer. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
