Looking for advice on building a Theater room. I have contacted multiple companies including Best Buy and astonished at the cost. I am looking for the best bang for my dollar. I want to stay around $5000 and not sure where to begin.

I like the screens from screen innovation but I see these companies on Amazon like Elite, Carada, and silver ticket and then look at reviews on You tube and seems everyone has there own opinion. I have a dedicated media room but dont wat to have to sit in the dark to enjoy the super bowl. The room is prewired for 7.1 but the mounts are on the wall I would either need to use wall or in wall speakers.

Are in wall difficult to set up? I am also looking at the Pioneer Elite VSX 90 receiver as the brains. Any advice would be great and I appricate it in advance.

Also am I going to get a great picture from an Epson 3500 as I would say an Epson 5030 or the Sony 40es?

Ok...

Projector performance is determined by...

Lighting conditions.

Less ambient light, better picture. There is, absolutely, no way, at all, around it.

Now, there are "light rejecting screens"...

1. Good ones cost half your budget, by themselves.
2. The "more light rejecting" it is, the worse the "off center" picture gets. Meaning, there are light rejecting screens so severe that if you were to put in a 10' wide screen...a person at the far right, could not see anything on the far left...vice versa.
3. Nobody(granted I don't follow light rejecting) makes an ISF screen in light rejecting. Maybe that has changed. Doubt it.

On the audio portion. Are the front three spots arranged where you need an AT screen?

If so...light rejecting AT just exceeded your entire budget(I'm not exactly sure...that even exists...I googled for one...no results...probably cause light rejecting and AT, individually, are expensive. Add the two together...even I might go..."oh, my")

Or...you can darken the room.

(Elite, Favi and Mustang get no love. One ISF calibrator that posts here will consider all three brands..."a bed sheet")

And...for us to actually help you...(any recommendations I offer will be predicated on proper audio set up...as in you sit where the sweet spot is for the audio. Then you choose screen size)

Room size? Ceiling height?
Where do you plan to mount the projector...ceiling? Back wall?
Other purposes for the room, adjacent room?
Is AT(acoustically transparent) necessary? If so, I never recommend perf. Always go woven. Why woven? When was the last time you saw a speaker sold with perforated* grills?

*no, you can't cheat with metal grilled in-walls...

Schan already noted the issues with projectors in lit rooms. So in your case, a traditional big-screen TV is the way to go, the biggest you can get for $5000.

Are in wall difficult to set up?

Why would you want to go with in-walls in a dedicated room? You don’t see them in movie theaters, do you? In-walls are generally inferior to regular speakers. If you reference a particular high-quality bookshelf speaker (used as an example here because they often have similar driver sizes and arrangements to in-walls), an in-wall of comparable sound quality will probably cost you 3-4 times more.

" I have a dedicated media room but dont wat to have to sit in the dark to enjoy the super bowl."

I have a dedicated room with a 100" screen and a projector - put together on a bugget. When the projector is off and there is no lights on, the room is 99% dark (it is an outside room, and there are a few cracks I haven't been able to cover yet) - but you cannot see your hand in front of your face.

Once the projector goes on, there is enough light reflecting off of the screen to see across the room. You can get up and change seats, see what the others in the room are doing. I had a Superbowl party in the room, and was able to see everyones faces who were there. You are much better going with the darkened room and a screen.

"The room is prewired for 7.1 but the mounts are on the wall I would either need to use wall or in wall speakers."

You can end the pre-existing wires in a wall box - then run speaker cables from these boxes to any speaker you want - don't want to be limited to inferior and more expensive in wall speakers:

". I want to stay around $5000 and not sure where to begin."

-- My cost cutting setup

-- Got a refurbished receiver at a discount price - works great - has a few cosmetic scratches that don't effect the sound: Accessories4.ess.com

Example: Dennon AVR-X2000 7.1 -- $300.00 - normally $700...

-- I have a full 5.0 set of the Hsu Research speakers - and couldn't recommend them more. I am running them with a sub, but already had 1 handy that I am using. You can get a nice 7.1 matching set of these with the sub for $1870

If you do get bookshelf speakers - make sure you also get speaker stands to go with them. You want to have the tweeter about level with your ears when you are in your normal sitting position - if possible.

Panasonic PT-AE8000U Projector 1,700

Screen: For $200:

Elite Screens Sable Frame B2 Series, 100-inch Diagonal 16:9, Fixed Frame Projection Screen, Model: SB100WH2

Total Cost of setup: $4,070 -- not to close to your $5000 budget...and not over it...

Receiver: $300

Speakers and Sub: $1870

Screen: $200

Projector: $1700

Sorry for the delay in a response work has been crazy.

Room size? 18ft deep and 13ft wide

Ceiling height? standard 8 ft with a vaulted ceiling

Where do you plan to mount the projector...ceiling? Ceiling approximately 12-14ft from the screen

Other purposes for the room Main purpose of the room will be for movies and sports.

adjacent room: Hallway and laundry room below the room - Attic space on one side and a bathroom on the other. I had the builders of my home double insulate the bathroom wall to dampen the sound.

I purchased a Epson 5030UB at Best Buy for $1999 while it was onsale still have not started to build the media room yet. I was also looking at the Epson 3500 which is currently on sale for $1299

Thanks

Rob
