"There is the railway.  And that is the desert.

From here until the other side, no water but what we carry.

For the camels, no water at all.

If the camels die...

we die."

Images from Mad Max Fury Road remind me of a number of films.

Metropolis, Modern Times...

And in the crossing of the wasteland in search of the green, MM Fury Road is an unforgiving, non-stop action adventure of the highest caliber.

Everything works in this film.  We immediately understand who the characters are, and what they represent.  There are Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, in possibly the finest role representing a strong women since...

I have no idea.  But Ms Theron is exceptional.  As is Mr. Hardy.

The bad guys in this film are really bad guys.

The secondary roles are all wonderfully cast, even if we can't necessarily see who people are behind makeup and headpieces.  Zoe Kravitz stands out, as do several young ladies, who I believe are "supermodels."  As I understand it, there are no more models, only supermodels.  They're sized rather like olives, starting at large and working their way up to super colassal.

To  put it simply, the film is brilliant filmmaking, and the cinematography by John Seale is extraordinay.

As a Blu-ray, and especially a 3D Blu-ray, Warner's release shines.

The image is perfect.  Audio is huge.  This is a Dolby Atmos release.

There are few modern films on Blu-ray, especially in 3D, that can match Mad Match.  Avatar is one.

But beyond the overall technical quality, the mad chase across the desert, and the sublime performances, Mad Max Fury Road is just a plain old terrific piece filmmaking entertainment, with 3D that rings all the right bells.

This one really deserves to be seen in 3D.

Great entertainment value.

The film was shot with an Arri Alexa, Panavision optics, and several other pieces of cinematographic gear.  It was finished in 2k, and the 4k up-rez is magnificent.

Very Highly Recommended

I've been eagerly awaiting this release since I walked out of the theater and picked my jaw up off the floor. One of my favorites this year. Action movies don't come better than this. In terms of sheer eye-popping spectacle, Mad Max was the big winner this year. At 70 years old, George Miller is showing a new generation of action filmmakers how it's done, and his work is as inventive and energetic as ever. Day One purchase for me.

Until then, I'll be listening to the fantastic score endlessly. Just received my copy the other day...double LP, 180-gram white/silver vinyl...sounds incredible.

Yup, seeing it in 3-D is the way to go and will do so again, when I buy this Blu-ray 3-D disc.

Wait! Don't touch that dial...

For those who missed Fury Road theatrically, your home theater hardware is not dropping frames.

Frame rate was manipulated throughout.

Any interesting how few people actually noticed.

I noticed - and smiled very widely - when it happened in the theater -- because that's the same style from the prior Mad Max movies! I loved this movie. I grew up watching them (thanks, Mom!) and felt this was a perfect way to continue the series. I do wish it was more Max centered, but Furiosa was excellent as the real lead of the picture. And Immortan Joe, the villain? Loved seeing Hugh Keays-Byrne return to the series was the icing on the cake!

While the practical stunts (when used) were well orchestrated and a welcome reprieve from all the CGI porn we've been subjected to, I cannot say the same for the movie itself. Silly beyond belief.

Why do bad movies get such good sound mixes???

It will be interesting to see if my Optoma projector can match the 3D I saw in the theater, which was pretty amazing. I can't wait to fire it up and find out.

I caught it and had to confirm with others that saw it at a different venue that this was intended.

Best film of year so far IMO. Can't wait for September 1. :)
I think so too. I can't seem to recall any other Mad Max film receiving such critical praise but 'Fury Road' deserves it.

I'm still struggling with deciding the best film of the series. A very tough call between 'Fury Road', and 'The Road Warrior'.

I hate to use this term but I truly think it is a Modern Masterpiece.

Of what? Schlock? I think that's giving the film a bit too much credit calling it a "masterpiece." The stunts were the only good things about the film. The rest of the script was overly simplistic.

The film performed precisely as designed, and in a huge way.

A great summer blockbuster.

For truly deep thinking, I'd visit another season.

Technologically, the film is a marvel.

Mr. Harris,

I'm afraid I need more meat on the bone, so to speak, with these modern "event" films (Jaws, Raiders, E.T., Die Hard, etc. were not just a bunch of special effects - there was imaginative storytelling, film craft, and decent acting too).

Stunts and gyro cameras only go so far and just don't hold my attention for very long without some semblance of cohesive story that wasn't just written on a napkin as a means to tie action set pieces together... to go along with the flash and bang. Gravity, for instance, is a great demo for Dolby Atmos, but everything else about it is wafer thin. I'd only watch it to show off my audio system.

There's gotta be better films coming out than this and a bunch of mediocre superhero films or tired retreads of past classics.
