I'm looking at pairing a Marantz SR5010 with Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers. I haven't found any information by someone who has actually used the new SR5010, or if this will provide enough power to adequately power these speakers. Can anyone give me feedback on how this receiver is, and if this combination of receiver/speakers is a good match?

This is also a receiver I am considering, so I would be interested any opinions of this. I'm guessing it has been out long enough for anyone to have an opinion yet.

Schan, I don't know what is an adequate amount of power to make these speakers sound decent. Sorry if I don't have your level of expertise...that's why I have come to HTF over the past ten years to learn from those who know more than I do.

Amount of power is nothing but "how loud do you want them".

I just looked(starting from the bottom...)

Motion ESL is 6ohm 91db.
EFX is 6ohm 90db.
Theos is 4ohm 90db.

What are these easier to drive than??

SVS Ultra
Pioneer Andrew Jones
Best Buy's Bower & Wilkins.

Yes, the 4ohm load requires an AVR/amp able to not puke its guts...

Otherwise...your ESL require less power than the three above.

(just checked all of them. All of them are 90db or higher. One was even 92db. Most are 6ohm. Martin Logan, at least the modern ones, nobody should be scared to run any of them...even the $80,000 Neolith, with an AVR.)

Since you are asking about the proper way to power your speakers, it would be a huge help to tell us what speakers they are. ML Electrostatic isn't really specific enough.

Worst case, that receiver has pre-outs, so you can use an external amp if you want. If you are using it for a full surround system and play it loud, that's not a bad idea.
