Hi Clint, I have had my Oppo 103 for around 9 months now, and I can say it's the best player I have ever owned (and I have a few, including Denon's top model and an Oppo 93).

I use mine with a Darbee Darblet Processor for extra "Bling" to the picture. ( I chose to use the "Darblet", so I could send all Signals, including TV through to my Projector)

The Oppo 103 does everything I want it to, and it does it well. If you want a high quality player that's reliable, this is the one !

So you must have the 103D model? Does the Darblet processor not add extra info to the picture which isn't there to begin with? It looks cool but I don't want to artificially enhance the picture, a-al turning up the sharpness control on the display.

Right now I have a Sony BDP-S300 blu-ray player which I'm looking to replace this year or in the spring.

(Edited to add Sony blu-ray model number.)

I think he has a separate Darblet processor unit with a 103 model. I have the Oppo 103 too and have enjoyed it ever since that unit came out. It's a fine player and I have six BD players hooked up in my HT setups which includes an Oppo 93 and Panny 500.

That's right, I have a separate Darblet connected so I can feed everything through, i.e. both of my Oppo's, my Denon BD, and 2 Panasonic Bluray Recorders.

And , I can assure you the Darblet, properly calibrated, adds nothing to the picture except heightened quality. Nothing looks artificially enhanced.

I have it running all the time, and wouldn't be without it.

That's very interesting. After reading some reviews, I'm pretty sold on getting a 103 but I didn't know if the Darbee model was worth the extra $100.

I replaced my 83 with the 103, and, while I am happy about the features, I must say I am disappointed with the product overall. I am on my second unit, as the first suddenly stopped reading discs during the first year. I keep the firmware current; but, every once in a while, it just locks up on a disc. I will have to say I will not purchase Oppo again.

You do realize these type of issues happens to every brand name. One of the things that distinguishes Oppo from other brands is their customer service. Why don't you contact them about your latest problem.

My display device is a 720p Panny plasma. Unless it dies before we buy our next home (hopefully within the next 3-5 years) I have no plans to replace it. When we move I'll be looking into a ceiling mounted projector.

I've had the 103 for a few months now. It's a fabulous player. I use it for discs, but what really sets it apart for me are the other features. I don't know what the current HTF rules are regarding discussing this, but it will play back full res MKV files with the HD audio tracks, which I have on a hard drive connected to the back. I also use it to play HD music files, using a high quality external DAC. It has an app that makes it possible to select and play the HD music without having to turn on a monitor.

I was considering an OPPO, but I understood that it supports Cinavia protection (because it has to due to licensing). So moved from BR/DVD streaming to media player streaming (Roku right now). Do you not have any problems with Cinavia on the OPPO when playing mkv's?

Again, I don't know what we can discuss here, but it's played every one I've tried.

Interesting. I'll re-think the OPPO when I'm ready to purchase again.

As for what we're allowed to discuss, I think anything about circumventing protection is off limits; but streaming of files is okay. But more than that, while I never actively try to poke the bear, I just type and figure "they'll" tell me when I've gone to far. I consider that doing the moderators a favor - I mean, what fun is it to be a referee and not blow the whistle once in a while!

I've been kind of amazed with the 103. It's incredibly versatile and well built. The only glitch I've had is that sometimes when playing high res music using the app, the player has just locked up and I have to turn it off and on again. Still, having the app turned out to be a big plus for me, since I can play music without turning on the TV. HD music is probably how I use the player the most.

I have 103Ds in two systems. In the main system it is just used for video with a projector. In one back-up system I have it for video and also have a hard drive with hi-rez music files attached (including DSD and multi-channel DSD). I own older ones too (93, modded 83 and even an old DV980H). I like the unit.

I have owned an OPPO BDP-103 since December 2012. It is an awesome player and it does an amazing job on streaming Vudu,YouTube and Netflix besides Blu-ray Disc and DVD playback!!!!! (in fact, the remote control on the 103 has both Vudu and Netflix buttons near the top just beneath the power, input and open/close buttons) :)

I have the BD103. I purchased mine before the "D" model was available. I have had the"freeze up" problems but then I've had that with all players from time to time. What I did do was to find an region free modification kit which plugs into the back of the player. Now i'm region free!! It's an amazing player. Can't miss!!
