I refuse to buy this because I have had it in every way it's been released...what makes this that different that you have to lay down more money for the same exact movie!

And now an opposing viewpoint: I haven't has this flick since my Laserdisc copy ages and ages ago. I know that Shout! will treat the disc right, so I'm first in line to get the thing!

Well we all know Shout will screw up on the AV quality so basically its all about extras at this point.

I'm going to try and conjure a version of this release that has both cuts of the film:

Klaatu Barada N... Necktie... Neckturn... Nickel...

I really hope there are 3 cuts: including my personal favourite - the European theatrical. My German 3-disc currently has a lovely-looking transfer of all 3 cuts, so it'll come down to newly-produced extras to make me bite...

4 different cuts of the film, a new 96-minute documentary, and close to everything else that's ever been released, I think.

They've confirmed elsewhere that the US theatrical cut is not a new transfer, which is disappointing, but this has been the case in the past when it comes to Universal titles.

I'm in.

This is old-fashioned fun until the climactic battle, which almost comes across like routine bone piling after all the flights of fancy.

This looks like a great package, the one caveat being the use of the old Universal transfer of the theatrical cut. However if they can clean it up a bit... remove the DNR and colour correct, then maybe it won't look too bad.

According to the review in The Digital Bits:

Reviewer’s Note: Originally I posted a note about a claim that readers had made about a shot that was missing from the theatrical version, which I mistakenly said was present. It turns out that I was looking at the wrong shot. I have gone back and checked again and, indeed, that shot is missing. The shot occurs for about two seconds at around the 27:51 mark wherein Ash is jumping over a brick wall while running away from the evil “force”. With that shot being missing, an audio anomaly occurs in which the original audio from the missing shot can still be heard, but it causes a brief sync issue. It doesn’t throw the entire film out of sync, but it does for that brief instance. I'll note that I used the original Universal bare bones DVD release for comparison. According to our readers, Shout! Factory will be issuing a disc replacement program in the very near future, and when that happens, we will inform you of all the details on how to get it replaced. For now, continue to enjoy the enjoy the rest of the release. Our thanks again to several readers who emailed us to let us know about this, including fellow Army of Darkness fan Vincent Pereira.]

There's also a problem with the international cut. There are at least two missing shots at about 30' mark (Mini Ash' scene). These shots are included in German BD and several european DVD releases, and are about 3" long.
