Looks interesting. Looks like it revolves around the Gary Powers U2 incident.

I'm stunned that there hasn't been any activity in this topic since July!

'Bridge of Spies' is Spielberg's best film in years! Tom Hanks turns in his usual outstanding performance. But it is Mark Rylance, who plays accused Russian spy Rudolf Abel, that turns in an incredible performance that will surely earn him a nomination (and possible win) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role!

The Booth Bijou gives 'Bridge of Spies' 4.5 out of 5 stars!

BTW, this is currently sitting at 93% critic rating and 92% audience rating at RT!

I can't comment on something I haven't view yet. I will do so this coming week, probably on Tuesday.

We're heading out soon today to go see this. I've been very excited for it. As much as I love the Bond movies and the like, these are really the kind of spy movies I prefer. The old Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People mini-series are by far my favorite espionage dramas. And it's a good sign that this is apparently Spielberg's best reviewed movie since Saving Private Ryan, or so I read.

My wife and I saw this last night. Terrific story driven film with great performances particularly from Mark Rylance. It won't appeal to the blow em up crowd but to those who appreciate great storytelling this can't be beat.

AMAZING writing! I was surprised at how much wit the dialogue had, and wasn't surprised at all to see the Cohen bros. had a hand in the script! (a fact I wasn't aware of going in) Wonderful all around movie, and Hanks and Rylance were perfect. It got quite an ovation from the audience when it ended at the showing I saw.

I saw this Thursday night and loved it. Unfortunately this is the type of movie that Hollywood probably wouldn't fund for anyone without a track record like Spielberg. Much more talking than action.

I thought it was a solid film, though, pretty much like watching a hand of high-stakes poker at times.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

I viewed it today and think it was an excellent film. I knew about the incidents before this movie came out so from an historical perspective I was very interested in seeing this film's portrayal of this exchange of spies.

I thought it was very good, but not great. I'd give it a solid B. I think the re-watch rate will be pretty good.

Good, not great. Hanks acting a bit 'phony' at times. Did not always ring true. I believe due to a predictable script. I must say though the recreation of the era was quite good along with Mark Rylance.

No false notes for me from Hanks. I take story driven to mean it actually has a story these days, at least one worth telling. Fine production, but not with the greatness of Saving Private Ryan. Poignant ending.

I saw Bridge of Spies last night, and enjoyed the film...although I think it could have been a much better movie...I'm a history buff, but also understand the sometimes painful adaptation to screenplay...the James Donovan character as depicted by Tom Hanks, comes off effectively, but the whole story pivots on his character to the expense of the other interesting characters development...Mark Rylance should have had more screen time...I would have liked to see a prologue delivered in the film depicting and establishing Rudolf Abel / William Fisher in his historic context...you're not given any reason to believe that he's not just some run of the mill Soviet undercover agent...in reality, he was the most senior Soviet "illegal" in the USA...his father was a friend of Lenin, and Abel/Fisher was a high ranking NKVD agent...shortly before he departed to the west in 1948, he dined with former Soviet Foreign minister Molotov and was accompanied on the first leg of his journey by the founder of SMERSH (you'd think that would be shown in this film!) Yes, I know that his importance is implied by the fact that the Soviets wanted to trade Powers for him, but I think 7 - 10 minutes devoted to establishing the central spy of this story would have served the true to life intrigue of this story...

I also was surprised that the incredible coincidences and happenstance that led to Abel/Fisher's discovery was not told...the paper boy and the hollow nickel, 4 years before...I understand why the character of Abel's accomplice Hayhanen was omitted...running time, and an already complex story...

The highly principled integrity of James Donovan gives Tom Hanks another memorable character to work with...and, you really feel sorry for Francis Gary Powers...Good, but not great, Spielberg film...

Film opinion varies and this film isn't any different in that regard as expectations and personal baggage is unique to each film viewer.

??? There are tons of movies out there that are "much more talking than action" - "Bridge" is far from unique in that regard...

A question for people who have seen this. Are there bad fake accents in this? Like Russians speak English with a fake Russian accent?

I love Spielberg but one thing that he insists on doing and I hate, is fake accents. The 2 movies I remember,

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and War Horse being the worst offender.

In War Horse people speak in their native environment with a fake accent. Can't stand that. They are in their native environement speaking in their native language, if you want to make them speak English, it should be without accent. Or at least without a bad fake accent.
