Unfortunately we didn't take a pic of the way we had things hooked up prior to moving. We're frustrated that connections which seem logical aren't working, manuals for equipment don't seem to offer anything other than what we're trying, searching the internet was similarly unhelpful until I found this forum. I hope you can help us to receive sound through the system again.

Comcast cable coming in through an xfinity box. The tv is an LG 50PS11. Surround sound is Panasonic SC-BTT350. We have HDMI cable(s) and thought that was the only connection we used before but maybe not.

Appreciate the help!

I don;t think your TV has ARC capable HDMI to allow a single cable solution so at some place you need a separate audio connection. The HDMI 1 port isn't labelled ARC -- LG normally has used Port 1 for this.

I would think Inifinity to HTib would likely work better than TV Toslink to HTiB.

You said the surround was working before, but not now. Is this the exact same equipment or is something new? How are the current cables connect between those 3 pieces of equipment. Which speakers are currently active - any/some of the HTIB speakers, just the TV, or both.

Thank you both for responding. I don't think the tv has ARC either based on the fact that I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the owners manual. It is the exact same equipment except xfinity. The audio does work on the tv but we'd like to shut it off as we did before and have the sound come out of the HTIB speakers; right now there is no sound coming out of the speakers because of the messed up connection. We can't recall if we used other cables additionally before or not...I thought the red/yellow/white was necessary when HDMI wasn't used.

Current cable connection: xfinity into tv HDMI 1; HDMI2 to HTIB.

The HTIB doesn't have an HDMI in, so what you actually have is xfinity into TV, HTIB into TV.

If the TV doesn't support ARC (and I suppose there's a slim chance the TV has ARC without it being in the manual), then the only option you have is an optical from the xfinity to the HTIB along with an HDMI from the xfinity to the TV. Optical cables are cheap, if you can't find the one you were using previously just snag one and try it.

The HTIB has an HDMI (ARC) out.

We didn't use an optical cable before. Yes, we could buy one but I guess I'm being stubborn in just getting it hooked again without more cables. The only thing that's different is the cable provider and its box.

Would it help if I posted pictures of the back of the equipment?

You had a connection "OTA source" to HTiB. Period.

What was it?

The answer is NOT "HDMI".

(based on pictures of a 50PS11 and the BTT350...the only answer. At. All.

Is...

Toslink/optical cable.

Which...I already "knew all of this"...

In.

Post.

I dug through the drawer with cables and found...you guessed it...an optical cable. We have sound; which surprises none of you. Thank you very much.

I guess the other thing I'd suggest -- if you have a center channel speaker from the HTiB and you always listen to sound from those speakers, then I'd suggest turning off the TV speaker otherwise you will might get some interference or degradation at your viewing seat.

You are standing at the precipice, staring into the abyss of I Need A New Home Theater AVR. Take care you don't fall in, it can be a long drop. :)
