Did I somehow miss the announcement of the Agents of SHIELD Season 2 and Agent Carter Season 1 blu-rays? Seems like they should have been announced by now, if they're likely to be released in September. Maybe at ComicCon?

Nothing more than a guess but maybe they're waiting until around the same time they announce the Blu-ray/DVD of The Avengers sequel? That way they promote all the Marvel video releases at one time.

That could very well be the case. I've already received review copy queries for all of ABC's-produced series, but since these are produced by the Marvel side of the company, no solicitations have yet come my way. Also, the ABC shows are only being offered in DVD (apart from Once Upon a Time) whereas I expected Marvel will produce Blu-rays of both shows as they did for SHIELD last year.

That makes sense - last year, Agents Of Shield S1 came out on the same date as the Captain America: Winter Soldier Blu-ray.

This makes sense, and the Avengers release will probably be announced at ComicCon next week. Only question is whether they'll release Agent Carter at the same time as SHIELD or wait til the new season gets closer.

If Agent Carter isn't starting until mid-season again, I'd say it's very likely that they'll wait until closer to the new episodes to release S1.

Thanks to Ron's links in the TV on DVD forum, we see that the date for both titles is September 18.

Thanks Ron!

Has anyone ever solved the mystery as to why these two high-profile releases are Amazon exclusives? Will other retailers have them at all?

I'm going to guess they're time limited esclusive and will show up elsewhere 6-8-12 weeks -- hopefully at least before Christmas.

Unless Amazon is going to bid against themselves, I'm not expecting to see $20-25 sets anytime soon. At least in Disney Movie

carries them i would have the option of B1 G60% off the rest if I wanted to make a big buy with Shield 1/2, Carter, maybe SW Rebels if it

shows up again, Once Upon a Time -- i figure I could get the average price into the low 20's doing it this way

It's a shame, too. The "Agent Carter" set would have been a no brainer in the $21-22 range, but close to $40 for eight episodes just ridiculous. I hope low sales due to high prices don't put Disney off Blu-Ray releases of future seasons.

Lack of competition makes for a no-starter in terms of sales. Shield Season 2 has long been on pre-order for $54.99. The set was released by Amazon today and the price immediately jumped up to a whopping $71.99, and Amazon claims you can save a whole 10%! Agent Carter is $34.99 (for EIGHT episodes) and boasts the same 10% discount.

This insane pricing leaves the sets out of reach for most consumers. TvShowsonDvd seems to imply that the sets will be available in stores in the near future but the lack of info has a lot of people worried. Nobody's going to pay $71.99 for a set they think will drop in price. So likely, nobody's buying it. And then Disney will sit there thinking that nobody is interested in blu-rays anymore and they won't bother to put out Season 3 next year. That's what I mean by "no starter."

Plus, at least for SHIELD, seasons 1 and 2 have been available on Netflix for a few months now.....

Disney/ABC/Marvel and Amazon need to get their act together on these releases. Go to amazon and look at all the negative comments about the pricing related to Shield and Agent Carter. Looks like no one even bothered to buy the blu-rays...they just went over to amazon to bitch about the pricing (not unlike what I'm doing here, but...)

I did some detective work. I looked at the amazon.uk pricing. First of all, the blu in the UK is not available until Oct 19. Secondly...it's only 26 pounds!! That's about $40 in the US! Agent Carter is only 22 pounds. Well, this pricing is more realistic, don't you think? Even with the shipping from the UK you'd still be saving lots of money. Those sets are Region 2, but still.

What I'm guessing is that the Amazon exclusive is some weird one-time-only thing and that the sets will suddenly drop to realistic prices in about a month. I have no idea if the sets will be available in stores. There's a lack of information out there about these sets. The only info I can find is that they cost too much.

I think the lack of interest here means that Disney or ABC or whoever really didn't want to be bothered providing physical media for these sets. Yes, we can get them on Netflix. We can get a lot of things on Netflix. That's not the point. The fact remains that Disney seemingly has little interest in providing these shows in physical media and is making it difficult to get them.

I find this very odd. Shield is not the most popular, best-selling blu-ray title in the world, but it sold fine last year, ties in with one of the biggest movie hits of all time and has a dedicated collectors' fanbase. Disney's move here baffles me. It makes me worry that we'll never see Daredevil and its related shows on blu-ray; just streaming forever. These moves are causing a lot of negativity and bad feelings for those of us who wish to see physical media continue.

I just wanna say that this Amazon exclusive thing is bullshit. It's a way for Amazon and Disney to gouge the hardcore fan, whose interest in the show should be rewarded, not punished. Shield and Carter should be in the same price range as every other show of its type on blu-ray --Arrow, Flash, Gotham, etc. Fans get nothing extra for the extra price that Amazon is asking, right? The content will be the same on the blu-rays eventually carried by BestBuy, Target or anyone else.

Disney needs to hear from people who are frustrated by this. Or else it's not going to change. Or, as said, they'll take lower blu-ray sales as a sign people don't want BD releases and cancel them, like the Simpsons did.

Full disclosure: I ordered Shield/Carter on BD from Amazon. They are due to arrive today.

Interesting that the prices for the DVD sets are what you would normally expect. It's only the Blu-Rays that are overpriced.

I do think content providers are trying to wean us off the concept of media ownership. They want to transition to an all-streaming model so they can a) get steady ongoing income from us instead of just occasional one-time purchases, and b) maintain full control over their content, editing it or changing the availability as they see fit.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that the streaming/download version of these shows is rental only. In fact it's the other way around. On iTunes and Vudu they are only available for purchase at the much more reasonable prices of $30 (Sheild) and $20 (Carter).
