There's this set from Mill Creek which includes The 27th Day, Night the World Exploded, H-Man, Twelve to the Moon, Battle in Outer Space, and Valley of the Dragons. I'm only interested in the 27th Day, which is an interesting sci-fi flick with an extreme premise which I don't endorse, but for some reason I want to watch it again.

The set is 2 discs and is from Mill Creek and costs $9. I don't mind paying that for 27th Day, but I gather Mill Creek doesn't have a good reputation. Also, I presume it will be 3 movies per DVD, not encouraging.

Thoughts, anyone?

I would have posted a link, but I think it's got a referral code in it.

Meh-ill Creek. I've bought a few of their cheapo Classic TV collections. MC is one of those that have to put their obnoxious musical logo before every episode. Hateful!

Mill Creek's blu ray of Welles' The Lady From Shanghai is excellent and their Lucille Ball collection of 4 (2 movies per disc) of her Columbia films looks good too. So their product can be good.

That is good to know! sounds like they've improved their products since I last bought from them!

First, there was already a thread for this particular set + another Mill Creek set

It can be a crapshoot with them it terms of properly authoring discs with 3 films per disc. Both Three Stooges 3-film collections suffered from authoring errors resulting in various glitches at certain moments because they didn't properly author the each disc to sustain 3 films. Even one of the blu-rays carried over an authoring error. Note that these came out within the past year

So 2 films per disc shouldn't have problems, but 3 per disc, I'd be a little cautious.

Single and dual film blu-rays should not have a problem. Also, if you're only buying this for one film, I'd take the gamble.

I also found The 27th Day to be a fascinating little Sci-fi. Sure, the idealism presented in the film doesn't mesh with today's cynical world but the ideas and the premise was indeed very interesting.

Those titles should look better than most Mill Creek product because they're not public domain, but are, I believe, all licensed from Columbia/Sony.

Yes these are all via Mill Creek's distribution deal with Sony. On the whole I've been very happy with what I've picked up from the Mill Creek/Sony branding. It's unfortunate that so many won't or are reluctant to do because of what they've seen or heard of Mill Creek in the past. They are obviously trying to up their game, and I applaud them for that.

I have one of the earlier 2 disc /6 movie sets from MC, and the quality was better than I expected . I'm buying this for 27th Day , Night the World Exploded, and Valley of the Dragons , films I don't have on DVD and which I passed on when they were MOD.

I ordered this one to get pressed copies of The 27th Day, The Night the World Exploded, 12 to the Moon, and Valley of the Dragons. I already have pressed copies of the other films. Even though MC tends to put too many films on a disc I expect these will look as good as their MOD counterparts.

Sony, and other studios, should take note that there are *many* of us who'd rather have films on pressed discs than MOD, even if they are from MC who tend to overpack their discs at times.

Having seen all but one of these, I can vouch for the high video quality of the Sony transfers.

I'm looking forward to getting this , and I realize now that 12 to the Moon is also a film I'll probably like .

All of these were offered years ago and most of us have so, come on and like I've said a thousand times before, "Bring out some new that we don't have!"

Actually since the Sony Mod counterparts do not suffer compression issues from cramming too many films on a disc they look a little better than the mill creek versions. Sony has always done an excellent job on their transfers its mill creek that creates compression issues and sometimes have authoring issues. But you can't beat the price if you don't mind the slight drop in quality.
