Hi,

I have Sony DAV TZ 210 HT system. it doesn't have digital input port (coaxial / optical). I want to connect my HD set top box audio to this system.

Currently i am using RCA audio cable (white & red) from set top box to HT system. however the audio output from system is not so good.

its stimulated surround with Dolby Pro logic II from stereo source.

is there any way to improve the input quality?

can i connect the coaxial digital out from HD set box directly to the HT RCA input.

Thanks in advance.

Abhijeet

If your Sony system only has analog stereo inputs, then that means that only analog stereo audio can be input to the system.

Analog is not digital, so you can't "directly" connect a digital output to an analog input.

There are converters which will convert the digital signal to analog format so that you input it to your Sony system, but you already have one of those. It's built into your STB (the only part of it you can see are the output connections).

You could try a different converter, but chances are very good that it will produce the same analog stereo result that your STB is producing.

If you want to hear digital surround sound from your STB, you need a system that has a digital input. It's that simple.

Yeah, you're stuck, that Sony only has a single input, which is stereo.

Even if you used converted the digital output from the STB, you'd still wind up with a simulated surround. And I don't think that signal will be any better than the one you're getting now.

Thanks Jason & AI for quick response.

I am currently using regular rca cable. May be high quality rca cable should get better sound output.

I am a beginner in home theater world & looking forward to learn new things through this forum.

Anyways thank you once again.

I don't think "high-quality" cables will do anything; it's mostly just a sham. On the other hand, if your cables are bad, then getting a new "regular" cable may help. What I'm saying is don't pay a lot for premium cables, it's not worth it.

What you really need is a new home theater, it doesn't have to be expensive, just avoid the home-theater-in-a-box models (which is what you have now). If you decide to go that route, post your criteria, budget, and location, and we can help.

I just looked at the 1810 again...

Didn't realize it was a passive sub(saw the antenna...thought that was sub...)

Doesn't process lossless audio(that should be standard issue now)

Bottom line...

Still better than what you have.

Glad that is not sold in the US.

If the 196 isn't much more...

As you've just joined, look in the forums sections for "stickies" like "Before you ask..." or "Beginners' guide to....' Forum mods and admins put a lot of effort into FAQs so that users don't have to answer the same questions over and over.

My overriding suggestion is to buy a "HT system" (not a Home theater in a Box, or HTiB) that has a standalone AVR model in it. Anything that you can not upgrade the speakers with (i.e. an AVR that is made for 4Ω speakers, or only works with a passive subwoofer) should be avoided.

Either is worth purchasing. Base it on which remote you like best and if either has a specific feature you would use(I didn't look at either beyond having a self-powered sub)...

Does either have a USB for Apple products?(I have no idea)

Either have a front input of any kind?
