Hello,

i am trying to connect a Sony KDL-55W800B TV to a Sony BDVN990W HTIB system.

Whatever i have tried so far has failed. I have read the manual for both at least thirty times each.

I have connected a HDMI cable to HDMI1 on the TV and to the HDMI ARD port on the Blu Ray player. When i switch to audio system there is no sound at all. The speaker are not faulty, when i play a BLU Ray they work perfectly fine.

Any suggestion?

TIA

Why don't you try an optical cable to run between the two. After you hook the two up make sure that you have the input on the HTiB set to Aux and you should be in business.

You have to turn on ARC in the HTIB (see manual pg 49).

Unfortunately, I don't see in the Sony TV manual that it supports ARC.

So you may have to use the optical cable approach that Tony mentioned. This may or may not pass multi-channel, it depends on the TV

Even with no multi-channel you could use DPLII for surround. It's better than nothing and the optical cable is a sure bet to work. If you use that unit for your disc playback then you'll still get DD while using that.
