Why won't Universal release this film on bluray? I saw the original stage show on Broadway and later ,the film in 70mm. The film has everything that a musical should have: memorable score, brilliant cast, great dancing and it is very funny. Many of the Broadway songs were missing from the film version but it still ranks as one of the best musical films I have seen.

I would imagine for the same reason it hasn't released Flower Drum Song, Sweet Charity or Thoroughly Modern Millie on blu ray.

Because it is not taking its back catalogue seriously as it should, I know that statement makes me sound like Capt. Obvious.

"The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" was one of Universal Pictures top money earners in 1982 and one of the top 10 highest grossing films that year.

So why isn't it on blu-ray: Universal has been planning a remake, so they might be holding it back until the remake is released - but it's been over five years since the remake was first announced and still no cast has been signed

You answered your own question: why should Universal put it on Blu when it's already available on HD? The thinking is, it's there for you to download. Not saying that's right but that may your best option. And only option.

Universal plans to release John Wayne´s "Hellfighter" in August, so they still release catalog titles.

So hopefully "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" is in the pipeline for a blu-ray release.

It was the last real box Office hit for Burt Reynolds.

After that his downfall started.....

Who'd have thought in a million years we'd have gotten At Long Last Love on Blu-ray first? :D

And isn't there an extra song in the edited-for-TV version? Someone was on here talking about discrepancies between the theatrical and TV cuts.*

Not counting TV guest shots, did he do ANYTHING good that's not a cartoon* between this and Boogie Nights? I'm starting to think he and Hal Needham made Stroker Ace** mainly so they could avoid having to do Smokey and the Bandit III.*** And what can one say about Cop and a Half, really?****

*The same guy who mentioned the possibility of there being a bunch of Annie outtakes somewhere out there. I think he's mainly on All That Chat now.
**All Dogs Go To Heaven was his third and most recent movie musical. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume Don Bluth didn't see At Long Last Love. I'm trying to imagine how he'd react to the Aggies' locker room dance in this film. :D Coincidentally, The Secret of NIMH, which also had Dom DeLuise in it, came out around the same time.

***It's a pun, get it? ;)
****Yes, I know he shows up at the end in Sheriff Justice's mind. And yes, I know he wanted to make a movie with Loni Anderson.

*****Except that they lifted the ending of Spartacus wholesale and re-enacted it with kids, and that the Joey Lawrence song on the end credits makes me wonder how he got a record deal but Nell Carter didn't. At least he didn't bring his Al Jolson impression out of mothballs.

I'm tired of the use of the phrase "cartoon" as an insult. Some of the best actors in Hollywood today are animators. In fact, I'm also sick of formerly neutral genre description terms such as "melodrama" or "soap opera" or "sitcom" to dismiss a work.

"Starting Over" was one of Reynolds finest performances. Reynolds was angry at the time because the academy overlooked him on purpose because of his "Good `ol Boy Image" and didn´t nominate him for an Oscar.

That's pre-Whorehouae, however. We're talking about post. He's amusing in City Heat but he's basically backup to Eastwood.

Actually Burt had much more screen time in "City Heat" than his pal Clint!

By the way, Clint turned 85 today is much fitter than Burt at the age of 79.

Burt did too many stunts in the past and now he can only walk with a cane.

Well, we finally got BLWIT coming to Blu. Universal is releasing it on Blu-ray March 8, 2016. Pre order links are up on Amazon now.

Back to the earlier discussion, I wouldn't dismiss any of his work with Hal Needham. They were all great films that I cherish as a part of my childhood. They weren't serious films, but they were awesome for young boys that were in love with cars, racing, and pretty girls.
