As a sequel to Neil's post, lets move forward in time. I chose not to include stalled shows otherwise stuff like One Day At A time, Silver Spoons and Fall Guy would have made it, but you can feel free to include whatever you wish.

70's:

1) Chico and The Man - Technically did have a release (brief best of package) but never had a full season set put out as of yet.

2) BJ/Lobo

3) HotL Baltimore

4) Carter Country

5) Paul Lynde Show

Alternates - Bob Crane Show, Holmes And YoYo, Hello Larry, Eichied

80's:

1) It's Your Move

2) Open All Night

3) Dear John

4) Midnight Caller

5) Jennifer Slept Here

Alternates - Bring Em Back Alive, Best Of The West, Enos

As with the 60s, I could easily come up with 5 comedies and 5 dramas for both the 70s and 80s (and still have trouble narrowing the list down), but for this post I will concentrate on the 5 comedies that first come to my mind for each of the 2 decades:

70s

The New Dick Van Dyke Show

Forever Fernwood

Hot L Baltimore

Temperatures Rising / The New Temperatures Rising Show

Chico and the Man (Like Frank, I'm not counting the TV Favorites disc. There hasn't been at least a full season release so far, so I'm including it on my list.)

80s

Harper Valley PTA

Oh Madeline

Check It Out

Duet / Open House

Mr. President

1970s

1. The Immortal

2. When Havoc Struck

3. Quinn Martin's Tales of the Unexpected

4. Diana

5. The Magician

1980s

1. Ripley's Believe It or Not!

2. Q.E.D.

3. Later with Bob Costas

This was actually tough for me to come up with more than a couple of unreleased 'most wanted' series for each decade. The major stuff I've wanted from both decades (WKRP, Taxi, Night Court, The Bob Newhart Show, Barney Miller, Kolchak, SCTV, classic SNL, etc) have already come out, overall, in their entirety. A couple of shows that I'd otherwise list have been released on DVD in other regions (Longstreet, Darkroom), so technically don't count here. Frankly, a lot of the series I watched in first-run as a kid I have little interest in or nostalgia for (and also have already been released, if only partially, in some cases). My general interest in "new" series began to wane in 1970s and that accelerated in the 1980s.

Not 5 from each decade but those would be my top few.

Kaz
Movin' On

1980s

The Mississippi
Hagen
Nobody's Perfect

Alice *

Phyllis

Rhoda S5 *

Police Woman *

1980s

It's a Living

I'll give it a shot for the '70s:

Archer
Gibbsville
Little People
Medical Story
Smith Family

A question for fans of obscure TV shows: Which two of the shows featured the same lead actor?

I'd have to think more about the '80s, but Bay City Blues would definitely be on the list.

Can't think of the 70's just now so here for the 80's in no particular order:

Ripley's Believe It Or Not

Valerie/Valerie's Family/The Hogan Family

Jennifer Slept Here

Love Sidney

Hard Time On Planet Earth

THE NEW DICK VAN DYKE SHOW
PHYLLIS
THE TONY RANDALL SHOW
A TOUCH OF GRACE
THE PRACTICE (I wish Warners would release this on DVD)

While conducting research at the UCLA Archives this March, I had the opportunity to screen an episode of HOT L BALTIMORE, which several here have included on their wish lists. Ye gods, it was awful; buried for a reason. That said, I would certainly buy the complete series if it was released (along with the slightly more enjoyable ALL'S FAIR).

Unlike the 60s, these two decades are easy. Most of what I want has already seen release as these were the decades where I feel TV programs started a major decline partly due to the new threat of cable TV and the new pay services like HBO. The schedules start to look totally confusing by the end of the 80s as the networks couldn't get a handle on what people really want to see. I know that I didn't care for the vast majority of what aired on the "Big Three" during those decades.

Here are the *few* shows I'd purchase:

70s

The Swiss Family Robinson (the one with Helen Hunt)

80s

Head of the Class

Frank's Place

If they would unstall Newhart I'd be truly happy with what I own from those decades even without those three.

There isn't too much from the 70's that thrills me and with VEI taking over the detective shows of CBS, that sums up what I want of the 70's for the most part.

70's

B.J. and the Bear (why is Universal ignoring this?)

The Beverly Hillbillies (three seasons out officially and it did run in 1970-71)

Mayberry RFD (one season out and it ran in 70-71 as well)

Chicago Teddy Bears (never saw it but it sounds interesting)

The Magician (again never saw much of it but I'm a Bixby fan)

80's

I'll have to agree with Jack P and take two of his right off the bat:

Crazy Like A Fox

Goodnight Beantown (anything with Bill Bixby)

The Ropers

The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo (why has Universal ignored this?)

She's the Sheriff

Enos (okay, so it's #6)

Don't really have any selections for the 1980s. Due to the extreme workload I had then, I pretty much gave up TV as I was never at home. I did watch Murder, She Wrote on Sundays.
