Ah!!!! Very interesting and very encouraging. Thank you. It seems Panamint are dipping their toes in the water again after their first splendid foray with Inferno.

David Hare has posted that the German disc of Canyon Passage is excellent. I assume this Panamint disc uses the same master.

Let's hope that these discs enjoy good sales and Panamint is encouraged to go further.

I own the region 1 DVD release in the Classic Western Round-Up, Vol. 1 from Universal (2007), which included a beautiful looking Canyon Passage in spite of sharing the disc with another movie.

The movie is such a Jacques Tourneur classic (or just plain classic) that I'd gladly buy it once more on Blu.

You can count on me buying this Blu-ray!

I've previously bought the Inferno Blu and I'm very pleased with it. :)

Panamint's web-site declares that Abilene Town is zone-free but Canyon Passage is zone B only. I don't understand why that should be.

Abilene Town co-stars a young Rhonda Fleming who was also in Inferno. I hope Panamint continues with this Rhonda Fleming filmography!

Because Abilene Town is public domain and Canyon Passage is liscensed from Universal.

Universal tends to be very strict about region coding when licensing to another company, though strangely the stuff they release directly often has no region coding. It's region B because Universal told them it has to be. Abilene Town is a public domain film, so naturally there is no outside pressure to make it region coded.

Thank you, gentlemen.

I had no idea Abilene Town was in the public domain. I do now wonder what elements Panamint have been working with. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I'd love a high-quality disc of this film.

Our "Abilene Town" Blu-ray, Region Free, is produced from excellent fine grain 35 mm material with a fully-graded scan to 2K HD and some then a little digital work. I do not think you will be disappointed.

It comes subtitled in English and has a 16-page booklet including notes provided by Rhonda Fleming and Robert Nott, author of "The Films of Randolph Scott", and double-sided inlay with alternative designs.

"Abilene Town" will be released on Rhonda Fleming's birthday, August 10th, as "Inferno" was last year!

"Canyon Passage" will be delayed a couple of months as I am trying to clear rights to a Dana Andrews short as an extra feature. More Westerns and dramas to be released, on Blu-ray only, in the pipeline, most with extra shorts.

Great news! Can't wait! Could you give any hints regarding the upcoming titles, at least about the decade or the production company (especially for the westerns)?

Looking forward to these releases. I know I have previously raised this on the Inferno thread but is there any chance of either Slightly Scarlet (my most wanted title) or Tennessee's Partner. The best treatment these films have received so far is in the Carlotta Allan Dwan DVD set.

Dear Russell, any updates on the Panamint blu-ray of Canyon Passage? I'm so impatient for your release of this classic western (as I believe are many among the members here) that I'm still postponing the purchase of another title of yours, Inferno 3D. Could you tell us a tentative release date for Canyon? Thank you very much for the excellent job you're doing at Panamint!

Received an email from Panamint the other day. Amongst other things, a CANYON PASSAGE blu is still promised. Along with a 3D Blu from 1953!

---------------

Firstly, thank you all for making December or busiest in our 15 years,
and Happy New Year!

All titles on this page http://www.panamint.co.uk/bin-ends-40-c.asp are
in low stock and will be deleted by the end of January.

Please order now if you require these as they will never be repeated.

This year will bring some exciting Blu-ray releases:

"Madame X" (1966) starring Lana Turner, due March.

"Canyon Passage" (1946) starring Dana Andrews along with other classic
Westerns.

A new 3D Blu-ray from 1953 - details to be announced shortly.

And more classic Scottish television series.

Yours sincerely

It Came from Outer Space in 3D is a real coup. Can't wait for that.

Also - this reference to Scottish tv shows is intriguing.

I don't recall much that STV have made over the years that would interest me but the sequel to Budgie with Ian Cuthbertson would be good to see

Info about "It Came ..." leaked out a bit early, but there will bit a joint press release from Panamint Cinema and The 3D Film Archive when we are ready to release. Greg Kintz of the 3D Film Archive is preparing the material.

"Budgie" was made by London Weekend as is available from Network DVD - region 2.

You are right about STV !!!!

I know Budgie was made by LWT but the sequel was made by STV albeit not until 1979 - and then cut off after an episode or two by the 11 week ITV strike. I take it you won't be releasing STV content then?
