Hi,

So i just moved into a new house ( it was a Model Home) and the house is wired up with In wall Speakers in 7 different rooms of the house, Including the patio and the front porch and the in-house balcony. All of these rooms have a knob looks like it could be used for volume, but i don't know. The crazy situation I'm in is that i have the home theatre all hooked up ( got a Professional to do it ) now i look at the remaining wires and there are two split wires 2 red , 2 black. thats all.... and i have a bunch of in wall speakers throughout the entire house, so the questions i have i will list them below.
( keep in mind all the electronics of the house are in a small room behind the theatre room)

1) where did all these speaker wire go ?
2) Is it safe to hook up the speaker wire to the receiver ? or will it destroy the receiver ?
3) what do i have to buy to get these 7 rooms all hooked up and be able to play different music ?

4) i would like to have a way to change the music wirelessly if possible ?

If you could include links to the product you suggestion to purchase please include a link, if not just the name and model would be amazing.

if you need more info please let me know or i can just attach a photo for you guys to look at.

Thanks

Whoever installed it knows. Ask the builder who it was.

And your AVR is what?

We have no idea what works, cause you haven't found out how it is wired.

Photo might help...if it came with complete instructions.

I assume that the electronics do not include any amplifiers or other equipment for the speakers?

So you’re saying there are two cables, each with two conductors, one red and one black?

If that’s the case it sounds like all the speaker might be connected in parallel, which would certainly be a bad thing to connect to a receiver.

Your best bet for starters is to get a digital volt meter and see what kind of ohm readings you get between the black and red wires. If it’s less than 8 ohms, then do not connect them to a receiver.

They could be 70v speakers like the ones used in department stores (old ones anyway). They could use the impedance of the volume control to raise the overall impedance seen by the amp. They could all run into an impedance matching device before being connected to the amp.

To determine if they are 70v speakers, just pull one out of the wall/ceiling. There will be a transformer attached to it.
