Wonderful, and important cinema. Films that have survived, only with a bit of luck, and a great deal of technical expertise, sweat, funding, and passion.

Your purchase supports the longevity of cinema, and proper film restoration.

Thank you for sharing, do you know when it will arrive if I order today? I'm gonna start a business trip soon.

Your order would be a pre-order, I think. As far as I know, no release date has been officially announced, although I've seen a lot of predictions for November.

There was an npr interview with criterion in the last week in which they said it'd be released in November.

Resurrecting the damaged features would take the foresight and vigilance of the Academy Film Archive, worldwide searches for surviving prints, a 20-year wait for the right technology and two-plus years of meticulous digital restoration by the whizzes at the Criterion Collection — "the hardest thing we've ever done," according to Peter Becker, the DVD label's president and a partner in sister company Janus Films, distributor of the films.

Great news. But there are many more classic Indian films that need restoration and Blu Ray releases. Where are the Raj Kapoor classics? Where is Guru Dutt? Where is Ritwik Ghatak?...

They did do one Ghatak: A RIVER CALLED TITAS, in their WCF box set.

...which also happens to be my least favorite Ghatak. Cmon guys, how about THE CLOUD-CAPPED STAR or THE GOLDEN THREAD?
