The only people better than lesbians, especially in the cinema, may be vampire lesbians.
Throughout the past decade or so, two cult films, both directed by Jess (Jesus) Franco, have been very successful in the home video marketplace. Mr. Franco has about as many credits as John Ford. By that, I mean Many.
Both also feature the young Spanish actress Soledad Miranda (billed as Susan(n) Korda), who seemed to be just coming into her own when she was tragically killed.
Severin is releasing Vampyros Lesbos, along with the wonderful Freed musical, She Killed in Ecstasy, on Blu-ray for the first time (at least domestically).
Vampyros is a decent looking Blu-ray, with occasional occurrences of minus density, but nothing untoward. Color seems reasonable. Grain is minimal, possibly from a bit of processing. No problem there. Resolution is quite good.
The track is a bit problematic, as it plays hot. Very hot. Overall, there is far too much air at the top end, as hiss is constant and annoying.
There are those who love these films. I'm not one of them, but each to their own. I find them zoom-happy, with music that sounds as if it arrives with needle drops.
For lovers of Mr. Franco's work, this may be as good as it gets.
