A Few Words About A few words about...™ Selma -- in Blu-ray (1 Viewer)

A woman named Ava directed Selma.  I know that because I remember it from the nominations and awards.  I'd give you her last name, except that it's unreadable, as are all of the other film's credits because of a problem relating to blacks and browns -- or possibly dark reds -- I'm not certain -- on Paramount's product design for this Blu-ray.

We know that David Oyelowo (please pronounce the final "o") was superb in the role of Dr. King, as one can easily read it in dark red type over a whitish-gray sky on an image on the reverse of the packaging.

As Selma is a fine film, although I'm not certain that the politics are correct in representing LBJ, Ava should receive her proper credit on packaging.  She does not.  

It's virtually blacked out, although I doubt that this is purposeful.  Apparently, the studio has none doing QC.

There are other people involved with the film besides Ava and Mr. Oyelowo, but none of their names are readable either, so we'll not discuss them.  Except possibly for Oprah, who has a small role in the film, but to my eye, stopped progress every time she was on screen, as she seemed to be doing Oprah playing the role of a downcast black woman.  Didn't work for me.  

As a film, the point is made that Mr. King did a mighty job toward bringing more legal racial equality to the country, even if that battle is still being fought today.

As a Blu-ray, Selma is perfect.  And should be, as it was shot with an Alexa Plus and taken through post as a 2k DI.  Will this make a nice UHD presentation, when the time comes?  Smaller pixels, but not more information within them.

Paramount has recently made it known that they are gifting a copy to the film to every high school in the county, which is a noble effort, and I commend them for it.  The historical politics of LBJ aside, there's a great deal to still be learned from Selma, about the law, racial justice and injustice.  It's all a matter of our teaching our children properly.

She had the same "Oprah-ism" you did...

LBJ aside...good piece on a crucial moment in time.

That other site gives it a 3.5 visual...with a couple commenting...

"They ported over the washed out look of the theatrical release"...


Apparently some of their reviewers don't get out much. Or this wasn't a movie that reviewer would go to in public...
