Just a heads up that apparently "Laramie" is coming to Encore in July. I have no idea if they plan to air the complete series, or if new prints have become available. I recall some saying that the color episodes released on DVD were in poor condition.

Maybe it could eventually spur Timeless/Shout! into releasing a complete series collection on DVD or maybe even BD, which would be a longshot.

I wonder if new prints have been made. The current DVD prints are pretty ragged and worn out and seem far below what encore usually airs.

It would be great if true this is a great series that's a bit painful to watch due to poor print quality. If this was re-mastered it I think it would easily be in my top 5.

Yeah, I have some episodes on one of those western collections (a legit release) and they look like p.d. prints.

Seasons 1&2 were re-released by TMG with much better quality prints. Can't say the same about seasons 3&4. I think they were going to release better quality of seasons 3&4 as well, but then put on indefinite hold when they were acquired by Shout.

Yes, but if remastered, will they air in an HD format, ala DEATH VALLEY DAYS, i.e. windowboxed on any TV that doesn't have the channel in HD? That might be the future for all new Encore acquisitions, so don't jettison those ragged DVDs yet!

"Glory Road" and "The General Must Die" will look way, much better than what you see in the S1 DVD set. Don't know the title of a S2 episode offhand where Timeless turned to a collector and his VHS tape to complete that set.

The show is airing now on Grit TV, remastered, uncut and they look great. And they are airing them in the right aspect ratio. Debating now whether or not I should do them off of Grit and have to edit them or wait to see if Encore runs them in the correct form.

Neil, not sure which episode you're referring to but Titantv.com has the episode titles and airdates as they air.

Are some episodes starting before the hour/half hour? I missed the first possibly 30 seconds of the Robert Ryan episode To Sit in Judgement. Did I miss the hanging?

"The Dark Trail" must be the one according to the S2 set that I have.

This is sad if this show is not reissued with new DVDs. I didn't know that they re-mastered them. This is a great show that would be really enjoyable to watch in re-mastered versions instead of the eyesores we got on DVD now. And yes the later issued season 1 and 2 were a bit better but still barely watchable with very limited replay value.

On my standard definition television, seasons one and two look perfectly fine.

Print damage is the smaller issue with the prints which does look worse in HD. The bigger issue is very poor contrast due to old 16mm prints. One episode is very dark the next is very bright and the next maybe pretty good but very inconsistent. Adjusting the TV helps very little in these cases. Love the show but doubt I'll ever watch it again because of the poor quality just too many good quality shows released. Unfortunately this is the case with many of the Timeless shows I bought. Wagon Train, Virginian and the ZIV shows look great but not many others.

Are the episodes being aired new 35mm prints or just polished up 16mm prints?

GRIT showed a black and white season two episode today. And it looked great! I pulled out the episode on DVD and that was not as good, but I don't think I could justify it to myself to rebuy the b&w seasons if the new versions came out on DVD. The color seasons I would seriously consider rebuying but I have such a backlog I don't know if I'd ever watch them.

I like LARAMIE but not enough to go to the trouble of copying them from GRIT.

Would love to see what these encore episodes look like, I have to say that Laramie sets issued by timeless are probably the worst quality official release I have ever seen, worse than will sonnett, worse than m squad, worse than room 222, hell they're even worse than mt 3rd or 4th generation boots of Laramie that were sourced from local stations that aired them back in the 80s.

I just saw a color episode of Laramie on Grit TV over the weekend, and it looked great! The Timeless release of the color seasons of Laramie is an embarrassment. I'm pretty lenient when it comes to image quality, but this is barely watchable.

I think I heard that Timeless was going to re-release the color seasons with better picture quality, but that was before they were purchased by Shout Factory.

Just watched the first episode of Laramie on Encore Westerns, and the quality is fantastic, and in color compared to the black and white series released by TMG. Will have to record them all and replace my TMG sets.

P.S.- and they appear to be in the correct ratio.
