I'm planning to set-up a home theatre (with 3D capabilities) in a recently bought home. I've a budget of about $2000 - $2500. I'm not an audiophile, so never followed the trend

I need suggestions on

1. Motorized Projector Screen (Current Selection : Elite Screens Model: ELECTRIC125H)

2. Receivers

3. Sub-Woofer

4. Front Channel Speakers, Rear Channel Speakers

Nice to have Features : 5.1 Surround Dolby Atmos, AirPlay, HDMI2.0, HDCP 2.2, WiFi and Bluetooth

Main Usage : (Apple TV, Cable, BluRay Player, Roku, Wii(may be) ) in this order

I already have a Acer H6510BD FHD Projector which I bought about couple of years back, So not planning to upgrade it immediatly may be 2 years later

How large is the room that you're working with? How loud do you like it? Does the budget include the screen? What space concerns if any do you have? Do you have room for towers or are you looking at bookshelf speakers? Do you plan on wiring it all yourself

For receivers: Yamaha is my top choice, Denon and Marantz are also very good.
For subwoofers: after much research, I went with Rythmik: hard to beat the low-distortion, decent prices and nuanced bass their servo design puts out.

Room is about 16 by 20.

Budget does include screen.

No space concerns but prefer Bookshelf speakers.

I'm planning to do the wiring by myself

I have a few more questions so I can understand this project better.
  • Are you going to wall mount or use stands for the speakers?
  • Are you opposed to buying refurb vs new?
  • Are you in the states of overseas?

It sounds like you're asking for a 5.1 speaker setup( assuming because you never mention a center specifically or how many rear speakers) but you want Atmos? Are you going to add in the other speakers later or are you looking for speakers that already have the Atmos speakers built into them (read expensive) like these Pioneers?

Are you sure that you want Atmos right away? I'm asking because an Atmos enabled AVR is going to push your costs up and (if you're only going to get 5 speakers and a sub) will give you no immediate benefit. With the budget you set for this project the Atmos AVR will eat a large portion of it especially if you don't go refurb.

Are you going to wall mount or use stands for the speakers? -- Planning to Wall mount

Are you opposed to buying refurb vs new? -- Nope. Reburb/New/Used. All options

Are you in the states of overseas? States (Atlanta/Georgia)

Planning to start with 5.1 but may extend it to 7.1 after a year or two. Atmos is not mandatory just nice to have option but if it is going to push my budget beyond $2500, I would rather not have it

OK lets see if we can put something together for you.

AVR - Denon AVR-X2100W Refurb $320 Should have everything you want except for the Atmos which you don't need for a 7.1 setup so I would wait until it becomes more available and cheaper.

Sub - SVS PB-1000 $500 or you can get the sealed version $500 if you like tighter bass or plan to listen to music often with this system

Speakers - Pick one option I tried to go for either front ported or a radiator design because you're wall mounting.
  • KEF C series - 2 set of the C3 $330 a pair and one C6LCR $250 Total: $910
  • Polk RTi - 2 sets of RTi A3 $305 a pair and the CSi A6 $315 Total: $925
  • Def Tech - 4 ProCinema 800 $145 ea and the ProCinema 1000 center $200 Total: $975 or get the ProCineama 800 system for $920 that includes the sub already. However, the SVS will be a better sub.
  • Klipsch - 2 sets of RB-61 $350 and the RC-62 $350 Just make sure you like the sound of a horn tweeter Total: $1050
  • Wavecrest - 5 of the HVL-1 $485
This should leave you enough for mounts/wire/cable screen ect.

After checking at my friends Home theatre and the local store, I think i now know what i want to buy. one change though. I just loved the tower speakers so planning to go with that instead of book shelf.

1. Receiver - Denon X2100W - $320

2. Sub - Polk PSW 505 - $200

3. Center - Polk CSI A6 - $320

4. Towers - Polk RTi8 (4) - $600

5. Screen - Elite Screen (ELECTRIC 125H) - $260

It all adds up to $1700 which is within my budget. Any thoughts on these experts ?

Before you buy that sub...

NXG BAS 500 or BIC 200(unless you just want all Polk...which is perfectly fine)

Gregg will call that Elite a bed sheet.

I have zero impressions of Elite...as Ive never seen one.
