PLACES IN THE HEART

and maybe one or two more!

Summer Lovers!!! I think I just wet myself. To my knowledge it's never been available in wide screen on home video before. Just full screen! That and A Month In The Country (which should look stunning in HD) are definites. I may pick up the two Fox scope offerings to support TT's 1950s catalog but I'm fine with my DVDs of Places In The Heart, Fabulous Baker Boys, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?, World Of Henry Orient and Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy. After all, I can't upgrade everything in my collection, can I? I need to be selective and I don't need Tracy & Hepburn in HD to enjoy the minor (very minor) pleasures of GWCTD?.

Another exceptionally strong lineup. A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy isn't my favorite Woody Allen comedy of his great period, but I'm certainly looking forward to it anyway along with the many other wonderful announcements here.

Still waiting on Thank God Its Friday (1978). Drat!

Luckily, my wallet needs a break and this looks like the lineup that will give it its much-needed rest. I'm in for Places in the Heart, A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy and House of Bamboo . Might spring for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and The World of Henry Orient later (possibly a 5th anniversary sale next year.)

With its noirish, bluesy LA look Baker Boys should look "fabulous" on Blu. Great movie, underrated as a number of Bridges' movies are.

Rave for THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT - a two schoolgirls follow concert pianist Peter Sellers around a beautiful New York City and continuously interrupt his secret romance with Paula Prentiss, a very funny movie.

I am thrilled about Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. I have wanted that on blu for a long time! Back in the late 1990s I had a great day at The Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. They showed three films in one day for a Columbia Pictures retrospective: It Happened One Night, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and Tootsie. Now I can recreate that great day in my home theater!

Will pick up three for sure (A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy, Places in the Heart, Guess Who's Coming Dinner), and I've never seen the other seven, so that's some serious rentals in the months ahead (though I have no idea how I'll be able to see The Little House without blind buying it).
