This new restoration looks denser in contrast, and quite more sharper. Indeed it's so sharp the texture make the skin look like a bit as was in need for a hydrating cream. The director, if I remamber well, wished no make-up at all, or something like that.

MTI, who develop film restoration tools used often by Criterion Collection, have a very good aperture correction filter, able to get results close to natural deppending of the source print. I believe they used this filter, maybe to enhance the look of the 4K transfer by improving details nearly hidden, almost dissolved, and bringing it to back to be visible.
