Need a good point-and-shoot camera for raod trip... (1 Viewer)

I need a good point-and-shoot camera for a road trip, something my wife can use. I was looking at this one.

Can I do better for the same money, or even better for cheaper?

That Sony is a well-regarded point & shoot, but overpriced for what you get IMO. I would also look at the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, which has a larger 1.5-inch sensor and more focal range (24-120mm equivalent vs. 24-70mm) with the lens for about the same price.


If you want something a little smaller, the Canon PowerShot G16 has the same sized 1-inch sensor as the Sony you are considering, but costs considerably less and has a different focal range (28-140mm equivalent) with more reach, but less at the wide end.

With not as many pixels, but the same zoom range, you may also want to have a look at the excellent Panasonic LUMIX LX100 (black: Panasonic LUMIX LX100 12.8 MP Point and Shoot Camera with Integrated Leica DC Lens, or silver: Panasonic LUMIX LX100 12.8 MP Point and Shoot Camera with Integrated Leica DC Lens). A friend of mine praises it highly.
