Just got out of the restoration premiere at the TCM Classic Film Festival. There are going to be a LOT of very happy people when this is released. Sharp, clear, beautiful grey scale and clean as a whistle. I have never seen the film before so had nothing to compare but I understand this was expected to be a difficult restoration as original materials are non-existent. Whatever they did, it looks wonderful.

envious of you , it sounds like it was a wonderful presentation, I will just have to settle for a smaller screen at home

I still don't know if I should buy the individual films I'm interested in, or the box with this.

I don't generally like box-sets (especially when they include various films and not a franchise)

I was recently told that the original camera negative does exist and used for this restoration. I can't remember where, but I seem to recall Library of Congress, although I am not sure. Maybe MOMA.
