Hi after going the the best buy magnolia and showing my wife various speakers we have decided to do the all the speakers in wall or in ceiling as she does not like the look of the speakers all over the living room.

Therefore I wanted to see what you would recommend for a good home theater system for under $4,000 the cheaper the better. This is my first surround sound system so i wanted to get your opinions. The magnolia salesman recommended sonance speakers and a Pioneer receiver (don't have specific models)

The system is going to be used mostly for TV and movies. I have a large living room which leads to my kitchen as I have an open floor plan. Also to the right of the living room (where the home theater system will be placed) is a dining room.

I am looking for a 5.1 system. The system I was quoted at magnolia was about $4,000 without installation. I want a good home theater but don't want to break the bank. Don't know how
Big a difference a 2,000 system vs 3,000 vs 4,000 would be.

You could pull off 5.1 with a $250 AVR and five $50 OSD in-walls.

Did this include an in-wall sub...or is that ok to be sitting on the floor?

You could also do 6" in wall with 12" drivers where it is ran as 5.0.

Well...what are your souces? You have offered nothing to work with...

Use Netlix/Hulu? Via what?

BD player? Which one.

Do you use Spotify? Pandora? Last F.M.? Via what?

Game systems?

AppleTV, Roku?

Iphones, HTC, Androids?

Satellite or cable? OTA?

So you dont need a fully featured AVR...

I'd pick the least expensive model that comes with an easy to program remote. Probably the Onkyo 535. If that remote is too small for you, the 636.

Everybody else with a comparable remote is $1000(MSRP...not what you are paying).

Id look at A4L for last years, or even 2 years ago(if they have any) 525/626/727 or 616/717.

However if you are planning on a Harmony/URC anyway...

Yamaha 377/477
Pioneer 524/824(the 524 is barely even bare bones, but...maybe it is all you need)
Onkyo 333
Marantz NR(the slim series)
Denon E series
