Hi,

I'm looking to get a home theater system. I stay in rented 2BHK apartment. My budget is $1200-1500. Would like to know what are some good options available in this budget. Please share your thoughts.

Regards,

What exactly are you asking?
Looking for amplifier, sub woofer and speakers combo set. Not necessarily one brand.Wanted to go for Marantz and Dali speakers but they are way too expensive. So wondering if I can get a better option.

For that budget, you may want to consider buying a used surround receiver. That would give you more to spend on the speakers. If quality is secondary, you could buy a Home-Theater-in-a- box for less than that from one of the bigger manufacturers, but go for one with a subwoofer - you will need all the help you can get with a HTiab.

This option is really cheap for 7.1 channels, but only has lossy format option, but for your budget, I would consider that negligible.

Here's a lossless 7.2 option receiver that would cost you a third or less of a new one.

There are many options in the used market (which we all know can be a crap shoot), but with this option for the receiver, you could spend more where it would matter most - on the speakers.

Thanks for sharing this. Liked it. What would you recommend for the speakers given the budget of $1,000...I'm open to options...only thing I want is clarity and crunch in the sound. Please let me know your thoughts.

You could check out offerings from Polk Audio and Definitive Technology. I've never owned Definitive Technology speakers but they get pretty good reviews of value for the money. The Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 system is under a grand and comes with a subwoofer. You have to remember, speaker systems in this price range will struggle at reference level (if they are even capable of reaching it), and tend to sound a little thin, especially in the bass, but for moderate listening levels for movies you should be pleased. This is of course a starting point, others hopefully will have other suggestions in your price range. I would go for something like this rather than the systems in a box from Sony or Pioneer etc.
