Disney's Big Hero 6, which just won the Best Animated Feature trophy at the recent Oscars, was an unknown to me going in, as I try to steer clear of reviews before seeing any film.
Along with Boxtrolls, it shares a spot as one of my two favorite animated features for 2014.
It's the tale of Hiro, a young teen, who is a bit ahead of himself, and his adventures, which I'll leave others to discuss.
Since it's a digital creation, the resultant Blu-ray should be perfection, and it is.
The imagery is gorgeous, and the audio is likewise, superb, with a caveat.
For those investing in Dolby Atmos, the release of Big Hero 6 is yet another message that the industry doesn't seem to be supporting the technology (which I love in theatres) for the home market. I would have thought that Disney would have followed through a offered Atmos on BH6, but I would have presumed the same for Planet of the Apes 17. Disney has also, as in other recent releases, held back on 3D, although as was with Frozen, the 3D Blu-ray is available in the Spanish release.
The 3D situation seems an odd move, after several of the more modern Disney animated classics were re-worked to provide the format. Did they not sell?
A fun film that looks gorgeous on Blu-ray, albeit in non-Atmos and 2D.
