I've mentioned here before that Columbia Blu-rays are boring to review.

There's never anything interesting to report.

Color levels, shadow detail, grain structure and resolution are always spot on, perfect.

So here we go...

To Sir, with Love, which is about to be released by Twilight Time, is a beautifully constructed 1967 production from James Clavell, and is his most known feature work. As a screenwriter, you'll find his credit on films like The Great Escape and The Fly. As a novelist, Shogun.

There have been many films which portray teachers, taking on students in a less than perfect environment, and bringing them around.

To Sir, with Love, probably because of Sidney Poitier's lead performance, is one of the best,

It's a wonderfully sweet film, made in the UK, on a tiny budget, with some superb performances, that looks great on Blu-ray.

If you've not experience it, this is one to pick up.

This film has a special emotional bond for me. It's the only film I saw in a movie theater with my grandfather. We took the train down from Stamford, Connecticut to see my beloved Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Unfortunately, the game was rained out so we ended up going to the movies in mid-Manhattan. He asked me which film I wanted to go see and I chose this one. Thankfully, he enjoyed it, but probably not as much as I did with the generational thing coming into play. ;)

Anyhow, I'm patiently waiting for my TT BD to arrive as I can't wait to revisit this film again and will definitely have some thoughts of my grandfather during this upcoming viewing. :)

Still recall the lovely Ms Geeson from Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush...
This movie on Blu-ray from the UK was what possessed me to buy an all region player. She is memorable in the film.

The film ran for over a year in the same cinema in Perth,Australia. It was hugely popular and stands up incredibly well today .A must see .The title song is unforgettable.

Another must own title from TT.

A childhood favorite from the sixties Saturday afternoon kiddie matinee at the Strand Theater in Seymour, CT.

Always get a bit misty eyed whenever I hear Lulu's title song.

I was even moved by Chris Elliott's tribute on Dave Letterman a few nights ago. The orchestration was spot on.

I love the song To Sir With Love in this one and was so happy to finally find it in complete form a few years ago.

Love the very different radio version from Lulu that everyone remembers, as well.

Not so crazy about the movie (I liked it, but probably won't ever rewatch it), but the song is a classic.

This film has memories fro me too. I was doing a typesetting apprenticeship in 1966 &67 went to school one day a week, the rest of thew week with the employer. This book was part of our reading in the English part of the course and a couple of other books I remember I read and rweviewed in thew course were JD Salinger's Catcher in the Rye and Evelyn Waugh's 1938 novel, Scoop. I knew a family member of the Waugh family in the 1980s as a customer in my shop and the resemblance was uncanny.

I loved the film but don't recall the sequel for TV which, obviously, is not a supplement on this disc. Besides the lovely Judy Geeson, one of the teachers is Patricia Routledge, now in her 80s, who is better known to British TV comedy fans as Mrs "Bucket" and a fine singer on stage. I find it hard to believe the film was scheduled on a "Kiddie" matinee back them.

The soundtrack LP I never saw even though I went into the retail and wholesale record business for decades. Fontana was a label started in 1954 as a subsidiary of Philips Records Holland. An artist who had her early record start on the label was Pete's Dragon's Helen Reddy(an Australian from Melbourne). Incidental music was by theme composer Ron Grainer(Steptoe & Son theme, for example) who was also Australian.

Look foward to the Blu Ray.

Actor Christopher Chittell who plays one of the pupils entered the world of hardcore porn sometime after appearing in the film. Then appeared in some tv shows before becoming part of Emmerdale , a UK soap he's been in for decades.

Brad here. Funny no one dug this thread back up this week but the TT Special is going on right now as we speak. 100 copies of To Sir With Love (1967) autographed by the lovely Judy Geeson are up on SAE. Get em while you can, remember the last time how fast Judy Geeson-autographed copies sold out (Brannigan). I think it was less than a day.

Kinda short notice on this one, the TT announcement on FB was merely two days ago. I quickly scraped together my TT bucket list for this order (having to temporarily forsake Eating Raoul (1982) and Fire Maidens From Outer Space (1956) which were on my next SAE cart.

My List for this purchase (my first autographed one by the way):

Zardoz (1974)

A Man For All Seasons (1966)

Richard III (1995)

Rapture (1965)

and of course

To Sir With Love (1967)

Get em while you can. Didn't take any chances this time, got mine.

(my wallet and bank accounts officially hate Twilight Time).

I went over to SAE to order the autographed copy of TSWL expecting to pay a bit extra even though I already purchased it as a new release.

Guess what ? It's free .

The only problem is you need to spend almost $120 to get it.

If Brannigan was the same I'm surprised they sold out.

So much for supporting TT with pre-orders

Autographed Brannigan was offered on an initial pre-order day for the next month's discs. I've been ordering all of the TT movies as pre-orders when they come out, so these mid-month autograph offers don't really work for me.

Is this already sold out? I bought the Blu-ray, but was not informed by SA or anyone about any Judy Geeson autograph promotion. Now it appears all 3,000 copies are gone, as searches on the SA web site turn up only the DVD of TO SIR WITH LOVE II.

The autographed copies are gone. However there are still plenty on unsigned copies left. You have to search with a comma after sir.

It was a pretty short notice, I only found out about it 2 days ago as TT announced it on their FB page. SAE soon followed suit.

Got lucky this time, I missed out on the autographed editions of Used Cars and Brannigan.

It has Judy Geeson so it's on my Get List.
Wonder if TT could get Judy to do another autograph session and sign 100 or so copies for a Autographed Special?
My Wish was TT's command. Should arrive on Monday.

On another tack, this will make for a nice Double Feature Night with another recent Blu release:

To Sir With Love (1967)

Teachers (1984)
