I'll probably pick up this up in August (My Birthday Month) as a gift from me to myself. After I get it, the "boot copy" I have will have an appoint with Mr. B.F.Hammerr. :rolling-smiley: Hopefully, we'll have a release of Men Into Space later this year.

I'm looking forward to getting this release, and I've got my fingers crossed we'll get some more ZIV shows along with other B&W programs this year .

Hope that This Man Dawson, Miami Undercover, The Aquanauts, Men of Anapolis,Acapulco, Lockup, and The Man and the Challenge are also being considered.

This is great news. I really hope the A/V quality is good... and I really hope they follow it up with Men Into Space (one of my most-wanted series; at least the whole series can be viewed on YouTube, but it ain't the same).

So any guesses if there will be uncut or edited like RIPCORD!

The only thing edited from Ripcord is the message about skydiving at the shows end, which was cut from all but one episode. No big loss here, one's better than none!

MGM isn't doing any more licensing out, at least not currently, so no, there's nothing to consider.

I thought the only thing edited was the educational diving stuff tacked onto the ends of every episode and not any of the stories themselves. Either way, apparently that must be the way MGM did them when they made 1-inch masters of all of their series since that was the source that was used for all of these releases.

SCIENCE FICTION THEATRE...stories from the Frontiers of Knowledge!

Before THE TWILIGHT ZONE and before THE OUTER LIMITS there was...SCIENCE FICTION THEATRE!

My first reaction upon seeing this discussion thread announcement was an elated REALLY!

But this is (apparently) coming from Timeless Media (which isn't exactly renowned for its restoration work) so what exactly can be expected pertaining to video source quality (ie. not another "the 'best' materials available were used in the production of this DVD set")?

The colour episodes in tv syndication are (in most instances) badly faded with the passage of so many years and there are two (full) seasons of 39 half episodes apiece. How will these be packaged? One Season at at time? Both seasons at once?

Are we destined for a (lackluster) MR. LUCKY (CBS 1959-60) spotty picture quality type-of-release?

I'm (naturally) hoping for the best but what are the realities of such a (welcomed) DVD release?

Unless of course some pristine masters have been stored away after all this time since 1955 (!) just waiting for such a momentous opportunity (albeit I don't really believe that).

Thank you.

I have a 12 disc set of the show, hardly watchable. Anything, even from Timeless, would be better than what's out there now and I'll be buying it for sure!

The version I have consists of ten disks, this release consists of eight disks. The case I have has a capacity of 24 disks, and it shares this case with four other shows, and there is space for one disk. The new set will leave three spots empty. Since this show was mentioned in a rather insignificant little movie called Back to the Future, I will place my copy of this movie and its two sequels in those spaces.

PS. One of the series in my case is Men into Space, and I'd be more than happy to replace it as well, so stop dragging your feet MGM, keep those ZIV releases coming!

The show has never had a legit release on tape or disc. What you have are bootlegs most likely dubbed from either syndication prints or the Sci-Fi channel in the 90's.

I had gotten mine in the early 80s by trading with a guy who recorded them for me off the air from a PBS station in Milwaukee that was running the show uncut without commercials. The ones on SciFi Channel looked better but they were cut down from 26 to 22 minutes. Anyway, I'm glad I held off on transferring the tapes over. As for source, they'll be from the MGM 1-inches from the early 80s.

The person who asked about remasters, have you been paying any attention at all for the last 10 years as to how licensing shows works?

And the color negs were badly faded when those transfers were done. Imagine they're pretty well toasted by now.

Well, we didn't need to hear that Bob...rats!!! This is one show that I really want because I watched it when it originally aired and some episodes scared the crap out of me, being as young as I was.

There's not much that can be done although I suspect new transfers with modern tools for color correction would certainly help.
