NewEgg went down...hhhmmm.

NewEgg is rarely the price leader it once was. But, their package deals this time of year tend to be decent.

Are you trying to stay "under a budget" or trying to keep speakers a certain size?

Much better than the quintet would be the KEF E or Focal Sibs(Accessories4less). But, that AVR with either of those, it isn't $600. Closer to $1000-$1500.

If price...

BIC DV62. Full 5.0 here is $350-ish.
Micca "something"(get the one with the "x", three pairs. One as a spare) is under $250.
Dayton has their 6" bookshelf, $60/pair last I looked.

Never used any Yamaha Receivers before except an RX-V363 and it wasn't powerful good for Bookshelf Speakers I guess but that is about all I think it would have a hard time powering Floor Speakers, maybe their 1990's stuff was better quality than present day. I don't know limited experience. I will say I have always LOVED their Sound I don't know anything about Klipsch Speakers I own a Harman Kardon Receiver keep Surround Sound disabled just music for me!!

Larger speakers being harder to drive is opposite of reality.

Low powered amps are better off with larger speakers.

I've been through Yamahas for 12-15 years, have a RX-V663 sitting in the closet working fine, replaced with a RX-V775 last fall for features and bargain price.

Pluses: YPAO, surround modes, remote control via web and iOS/Android apps (the apps are superb), a full setup mode via web, USB playing from iOS devices, PEQ (if you like that).

Minuses: Airplay won't play more than two songs. Pandora loses connection after a few hours. HDMI-CEC will sometimes switch to TV when it comes on in response to my selecting another program input. There should be a safeguard timeout if you select AV2 for instance, then not switch to TV because it snapped on. Remote has tiny buttons, and even tinier text, this 50something can barely read them with computer glasses, out of the question in subdued lighting. No conversion from 480p or other progressive COMPONENT VIDEO IN to HDMI out like my 663 did. (edit) Mild disappointment over the outgoing AVR, I had to run component video lines to my TV for the older input sources, and have to switch the tv manually to use them. WTF, they couldn't keep that feature for a few more years?

I think the 600 series is like the 700, but the 700 has pre-outs, maybe a second HDMI OUT ??

In all, I like the amps. BUT ... be wary of the price, does it seem a bargain just because they're assembling it with some speakers? Maybe you should look a slightly older receiver, refurb, open box, whatever and pick your own speakers. If it seems a bargain just because "bonus: speakers included" it's probably NO bargain.

FYI, I don't see the speakers, maybe because I'm not logged into NewEgg. I see it $599 for the amp. I think you could find a 675 or 775 even for cheaper, and get nearly the same. (My 775 does NOT have wi-fi built-in, only Ethernet, so I have a cheap b/g/n router acting as a wireless bridge for the AVR. They sell a wi-fi dongle -- my kit came with the Bluetooth dongle -- but it costs more than one of those simple gaming system wi-fi dongles you can get for $20something on Amazon.)

The 700 series do have the second HDMI out... I also do agree with all, I'm a big fan of their Aventange line, they're built better and sound awesome.

Don't know what you've done wrong, but the 775 has HDMI upconversion.

Maybe the way you have CEC functions turned on causes it not to work(just a guess as CEC has always been a waste of time).

Sorry, but no, the 775 does not pass 480p content to the HDMI OUT. OOPS, sorry I should've specified component progressive video. The interlaced it will pass out via HDMI.

What happens under some circumstances, a Scene or Source directs the TV to come on, or I turn it on and then select another source. The TV takes something lke 10 seconds before saying "Hi there!" to the AVR. Another infrequent aggravation (Samsung's fault) is hitting the Source button on the remote will drive to the TV off-the-air source, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Once in a while, I have to battle with it to get back to, say, the HDMI1 or Component inputs. Dunno what gremlin Samsung has programmed in. I'm not sure what the common factors or actions I'm doing.

I was referring to the 675. According to the manual, the RX-V675 only has one HDMI OUT.

Turn off the video scaling. You are correct, it can't apply video scaling to anything but 480i(you can thank the entire industry for that).

But once set "through"(or native) it should allow 480P and HD upconversion.

Your other aggravation is the CEC.

Turn it off.

Thanks for trying to help, but I do use HDMI-CEC so the infrequent aggravation of the Samsung TV (like this morning, change source it kept jumping back to TV when it tuned in a station; I think this is because when you click the Source button on the remote, TV is the default one it lands on, NOT what is selected) is outweighed by the daily convenience of it it supporting HDMI-CEC. E.g. putting a BD in the player turns on the TV via HDMI pass-through.

Thanks for trying to help with the resolution, but I've confirmed with two devices (PS2, Yamaha DVD-S550) that only component 480i is converted to the HDMI OUT.

The Video through or processing options are irrelevant. Oddly, the amp doesn't even identify the resolution of 1080i or 480p:

Trust me, I've tried all the options. The Direct setting, and under Processing, Through, Auto, and even the resolution that I know the component video is in. No dice. I thought from those "???" that something was faulty until I cracked the manual and found the table.

The bummer is that the 663 most definitely did this. I didn't have component hooked up to the LED TV at all. Hmph. But I play the PS2 infrequently, and the DVD player is generally a CD player (it has an CD upscaling option, probably snake oil), once in a blue moon I play an old non-anamorphic DVD and want to use the player's native zoom function (up to 4x in and out).

Someone elsewhere mentioned that upconversion has been curtailed like this, the RX-A1030 and above perform the conversion that i used to get with the RXV663.
