Dragonframe is the software creator that supports the work performed by LAIKA (Coraline & Paranorman), which is in Oregon.

While LAIKA, probably has more than a single pair of hands for their films, it seems to be generally easy.

Just keep in mind that there are 1,440 different bits of movement that must be created per second of film.
All of the effort has been worth it, as the final product is a terrific movie, all 140,000 frames of it.
I'm not certain that Boxtrolls is appropriate for young children, but for older kids, teens (if they'll watch animation) and adults (who would be foolish to miss this), it's great.
On Blu-ray the production shines. Detail is superb. Color, shadow detail and black levels look as one might expect from perfect exposures via a Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
Adding up basic production costs, you've got the Dragonframe software and gadgets, the Canon and a few lenses. The package can probably be put together for under $25,000.
Just a few other things that get the cost of the film up in the sixty million dollar area, which may be out of reach for most teens aspiring to make a film.
Aside from the entertainment value of Boxtrolls, which has been released by Focus (Universal), the new Blu-ray can be the great basis for an eduction on animation. There's a great deal to be learned, with quality featurettes and commentaries.
Boxtrolls is a delight. It's great fun, enormously rich in production design, and no matter what you do, don't miss the end titles.
Start your own animation empire today!
Very Highly Recommended.
