Wow! Toshiba is exiting the TV manufacturing business in North America. It's yet another once dominant Japanese company falling to South Korea and China powerhouses. Given that Toshiba didn't introduce any new TV models at CES, I guess it was a foregone conclusion that this would happen.

I have had and still do have friends at Toshiba, so it is really sad to see this happen, but it seems like it is the inevitable. I would say that losing the format war might have done them in, but the other Japanese CE companies are not fairing much better.

However, the Toshiba brand won't disappear from the US as they intend to license the brand to Taiwan's Compal Electronics.

It appears that Toshiba will license off all TV products to other companies outside of Japan.

Sad day indeed.

Need to have a multiple option in the poll. I own displays from both Japan and South Korea.

The pursuit of HDDVD didn't finish them off as quickly as DiVX finished off Circuit City, but it can't have helped. :(

Isn't that kind of a meaningless question now? I thought 99.9% of all electronics were made in a handful of factories in China at this point.
