Interstellar 4: First Class, now with the new teen cast.

(So, it's a safe bet that the black Human Torch is not going to be Sue Storm's brother...well, not literally.)

Or "Four of Steel", where they try to bury their last version by going in the complete opposite Serious Epic direction, so no one will giggle this time.

Another piece of evidence to add to the "Non-Marvel studios don't have a CLUE" debate.

I hate to judge by teasers, but this looks way too dreary and serious for it's own good. FF should have an element of fun. Where's the fun?

You got that right. The makers of this thing look like they've barely even HEARD of the FF.

In the first two movies....UNFORTUNATELY. On a strict dictionary definition of "fun", of course.

And the quote-fingers, "fun" of the first movies is what they're in a desperate panic to get away from, at all costs.

(Sort of like we got Dark Knight Rises because of Batman & Robin. Neither one was quite the solution to the problem.)

You got that right. The makers of this thing look like they've barely even HEARD of the FF.

Back when the big craze was for discovering new young "breakout" indie directors to jumpstart franchises--yes, even before Marvel discovered James Gunn on his indie superhero film--Fox made a big deal of grabbing the Chronicle director to give a hip, young jumpstart to the franchise they wanted to apologize for.

And they seem to be overdoing the apology, by being more interested in a teen Chronicle 2 than in the Richards clan.

(Of course, there's also that they probably can't touch any of the territory of the original franchise--Just like Sony tried to jumpstart the Amazing Spiderman franchise, but steered away from any reference to Mary Jane, natural webs or J. Jonah Jameson from the Raimi films.

Which makes it a bit hard for F4, since the old "wrong" franchise kept all the proper iconography with Dr. Doom, the characters being adults, the space origin, and the Silver Surfer showing up. That, um.....doesn't leave much.)

Ok color me confused. You made what five minutes after you watched the trailer? You posted the identical trailer from the OP?

Yep. Fun is one of the best things about the silver age Fantastic Four comic books.

The last two FFs certainly weren't the greatest movies but they did get the sense of fun correct. I guess rather than fixing the problems while keeping what worked with those two movies, it's easier to copy Christopher Nolan since his movies make a boatload.

That is hilarious. You didn't notice the Matthew McConaughey voiceover? That makes his point perfectly.

its getting harder and harder to accept non-MCU Marvel movies. This isn't an exception.

I cannot understand why some of the makers of comic book movies don't seem interested in satisfying the comic book fans, at least with respect to the source material. Why aggravate your potentially biggest supporters?

As a fan of the characters, based on what they've presented in the trailer, I'm not interested. Which would also mean I won't buy a Blu-ray. Sure it's still early, and sure, the film may still make money, but without advocates of the source material, they really limit the film's potential & support. Hollywood continues to think they "know" better than what made something popular with it's audience.

If you can't bring the audience who supports the characters along, then who are you making the film for? It's like purposefully cutting off 50% of your opportunity.

I've been following the development of this for a while and I haven't liked much of what I've heard so far.

Changing Johnny's race just "because", and having Sue being adopted by be Storms.

Not having Victor Von Doom and instead we have Victor Domachev, who uses the blogger handle "Doom".

All "four" being so young.

A low-ish budget, "grounded take" on the Fantastic Four.

And I was also concerned that Josh Trank would use the same found footage style he used in Chronicle. I like Chronicle, but I still dislike "found footage" style films.

With this teaser at least we can see that it doesn't look like found footage. It looks interesting for a general sci-fi film, but it doesn't look like a good Fantastic Four film.

Doesn't seem to convey much of a sense of adventure and fun. There is already a great example of the tone and style that would be perfect for a F4 film, The Incredibles. That's the tone they should be going for.

Yep, I was right: Someone in legal must've said "Don't use the D-word!"

(So, maybe the Chrome Rollerblader will show up in the next one....)

Funny that Marvel has no reservations about showing what they think of Fox's new take on the F4.

They recently had the cast make an appearance in an issue of The Punisher:
