Hi, my current set up for my home theatre is my laptop connected by HDMI to the TV for video and an RCA cable connecting my laptop to an old Stereo CD players aux-input for audio. It works for me but i feel it lacks a bit on the bass end

What im wondering is if it possible to connect a subwoofer to this setup also?
The back of the stereo looks like this

There is obviously no subwoofer-out socket. Is there a way to connect a subwoofer to this system? If i just connect a subwoofer to the speaker outs on the stereo will it drain power from the speakers?

If so what sort of subwoofer would i need? Powered or unpowered, what kind of connections on the back of the subwoofer? Any particular subwoofers anywone would recommend for this situation?

Just get a sub with high level input with matching outputs to the speakers. You run the wire from the stereo to the sub and then back out to the speakers. The sub sits inline and get the signal that way.

I forgot that way, ingrained preout...

If the Dayton/BIC have high level, use them.

Personally, I would go the first way. Using the high level inputs, you are getting the bass after it has come from the internal amp in the CD player, which probably isn't going to give as good a result. The nice thing is, the cost of the RCA splitters is only a few $, so if you get a sub with high level inputs you can try both ways and see what works best.
