Hi,

I haven't post since my RPTV days and I still have the same RPTV almost 10 years now. I'm ready for an upgrade. I'm thinking about getting a Vizio 4k.

How can I setup the smart apps audio to output to a 5.1 receiver?

Here is my current setup.

Directv to receiver, PS3 to receiver and then receiver out via hdmi to TV.

I still want to keep the same setup when I get the Vizio, but I want to use Netflix app on the tv for 4k material.

How do I get the audio out from the Smart Apps on the TV to the receiver for 5.1?

Do I need a second hdmi cable, or can I use the same hdmi from receiver out, or use an optical cable from the tv to the receiver?

Thanks!

Thank you. So, do you use a second HDMI cable for the audio to the receiver from the TV? What is your current setup for your Vizio 4k? I'm trying to figure out how I want to set everything up from receiver, Directv, PS3, and the audio from the apps.

ARC is an HDMI 1.4/2.0 spec.

I suggest you read up. I doubt very many AVR are capable of a CEC sync with Vizio. Every brand of AVR lists what TV they are compatible with in regards to ARC/CEC.

My take?

CEC is a waste of time. ARC is an answer to a problem that never existed. Every forum is littered with "Why does my ARC not work?".

I suggest making sure the app audio can leave via toslink.

Apparently you haven't looked up CEC or ARC yet. Or you wouldn't have asked "2nd HDMI"...

Consumer Electronics Control. Otherwise known as Simplay, VieraLink etc(I pay zero attention to Vizio, no idea what they call it)

Audio Return Channel. No big mystery, allows audio to return from the TV to the audio source. Same thing a toslink/digital coax does without the bullsit interference caused by CEC.

You must use CEC to attempt to use ARC.

I run Uverse and PS3 to my Onkyo-626 and then one HDMI to the TV. It took no time at all in reading the manual to set up the Audio return channel.

With my Panny plasma, only one HDMI input has ARC, which I initially used for viewing Netflix. Now that I have Netflix on my PS3, XBox 360 and Blu-ray player (and potentially on future Apple TV), the ARC has become superfluous. Read your manual and see if ARC is restricted from any of the HDMI ports.
